Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano vs. DubVision - Triton (Dance Valley 2013 Anthem) (Original Mix)

TRACK ONE

This work is for piano in sixteenth of tones and mechanical metronome. The metronome, set at 60 beats a minute, represents clock time. The piano part starts with the metronomic pulse then digresses to create an effect of psychological time. Instead of the melting clocks of the famous painting by Dali, one is now confronted by melting minor triads, progressing through ever finer gradations of microtonality. 

Triadica: 1. Persistance de la mémoire

This work is for two pianos tuned a quarter tone apart. The entire range of the instruments is activated, but it is the central range, around middle C, that is the obsessive zone of the music. 

Triadica: 2. Centrage

This work is for piano in sixteenth of tones and two pianos tuned a quarter tone apart. It explores the mysteries of the blue note of jazz fame. In this case, the expressive pitch deviation of the blue note is investigated at a microcosmic level, thanks to the fine pitch increments of the piano in sixteenth of tones. 

Triadica: 3. Ultrablue

This Next Space is scored for fifteen instruments. They are arrayed in a spatial configuration that creates a rotational movement within the sound image. This would have its maximum impact in the round, yet in a standard concert setting there a striking inner movement and depth of field to the sonic array. Here again, the sequence of twelve harmonies is at work, but in a heightened, dramatic way, as befits a work destined for the concert platform, in contrast to a contemplative space.

Making the rounds, having a promenade, at night. A typically Spanish form of socializing. Expressionsim, with Schoenberg's Serenade in mind.

This work for clarinet and guitar was inspired by the imaginative world of Paul Klee. In particular his whimsical titles that poetically detonate the aesthetic impact of the pictorial content in a magical way.
