With releases on labels such as Rush Hour, Counterchange, and Delsin, be it house or techno, Nubian Mindz wear each hat with matching aplomb. Which ever sonic stylings are at hand, hi-tech machine soul is always de riguer. On this, their debut release on Vitalik Recordings, they pay tribute to the classical house sounds of New York and Chicago.
Circo Loco resident and one half of Peace Divison Clive Henry makes his first appearance the Ibiza based imprint with friend and collaborator Alex Arnout. As does Will Berridge under his Path moniker, displaying why he is pegged as one of UKs most promising upcoming artists.
Moment of Truth is spacious and atmospheric. Dissonant, descending pads wash over a heavy kick. The bright electric keys stand in stark contrast to the drunken decent of it's warbling sound-bed, the result is pleasingly incongruous, head music for house heads.
Clive Henry and Alex Arnout make a formidable remix duo on this e.p. Their remix is an airtight groove aimed squarely at the floor. A simple, infectious bass loop filters in and out below the washes of the top line, building the suspense but never peaking, just maintaining that solid heads down dance-floor groove.
Path add that U.K. flavour. Big swung beats and an almost exhibitionist feat of audio acrobatics. Samples are twisted and reversed in rhythmic swing. There's a very special moment midway through that will see this track being dropped at that key moment of the night when the mood shifts gear.
Back 2 House is a frenetic MPC workout, acid house on steroids for want of a better description. Furious machine drum crescendos are broken with an incomprehensible but stupidly catchy vocal.... something about house I think. What's certain is this is a peak time banger, a weapon of mass disco ruction.
Center of Excellence eases out the ep with another hypnotic and atmospheric number. Reminiscent of early Gemini material on Peacefrog, jazzy freeform keys meander to and fro, letting the mind wander like a daydream in delta wave.

In advance of his attendance as a participant at the 2016 Red Bull Music Academy in Montreal, rising UK producer Hyroglifics has prepared the ‘All Talk’ EP for release in September via London’s drum & bass purveyors Critical Music. That title might under-promise, but on tracks like “Persuade,” debuted here, Hyroglifics certainly delivers. 

Featuring verses from long-running British rap crew Foreign Beggars, “Persuade” eschews Hyroglifics junglist tendencies in favor of more linear hip-hop. Following a mellow intro, it explodes with energy off the back of vocals that are paranoid, partially uplifting, and certainly boastful (“This is what you want / let me show you what you need”). There are shadowy slips of sound tucked throughout, with woodblock rhythms knocking at the door of otherwise fragile, glassy details that compete with the verses for attention. It’s not jungle, and it’s not drum & bass, and maybe it’s not really hip-hop, either - it’s just Hyroglifics.
