As per normal I had no plans what so ever and ended up in a very different place to what I was expecting. I started this tune on a Sunday afternoon and it was 100% going to be a filthy under ground tech house record, as you will hear it became no such thing. 

This is why I love creating music using samples with no plans as you never really know where it will go. The vocal and the bass line took this tune in a different direction, they softened it up and made it happy and up lifting as opposed to dark  and tech. 

The natural clap pattern sealed its happy vide and the dark side was lost forever.  This is a happy little tune that should make you tap your feet and hopefully think about good times had with close friends on a dance floor in the sun.

When I sent this record to my mastering engineer ( TKR Mastering based in Brighton - find on Facebook; ) 

I described this as a paint by numbers Tech House Tune. Which as I write this it feels like I am selling it a bit short, I am not.
It is simply a very simple tech house set starter. There are the key elements that make up a tech house record: solid kick, rumble bass, hissing tops, awesome soulful female vocal ( Selena Evangline again,) stabby piano riff, 808 claps, big build up massive drop and easy to mix out of you are a DJ. 

Now when you look at it like that why not celebrate simplicity and just make a record that delivers the basics very well. 
That is why Little Trip is a paint by numbers tech house record that delivers on the most important fundamentals.  It’s not ground breaking or cool and edgy it’s Simple.... a bit like it’s maker :-)

This record came about like many of my tunes in that I had no plan whatsoever! I found a hip hop drum sample raised the BPM to 122 and started adding other bits and pieces until there was this strange hybrid break beat and tech house affair. Two genres that would never normally party together. The game changer for this tune is the vocal.

I use loop cloud for most of my samples and I stumbled across a sample pack sung by Selena Evangeline. A deep soulful voice that sits perfectly with an underground sound. The sentiment of the vocal was hugely significant as we where just coming out of the last lock down and the world was poised to live again and the mood of the planet was finally lifting. 

In every record there is a penny drop moment that takes it from an idea to a worthwhile endeavour- the vocal did that in this case and I am so glad I stumbled across it. If you enjoy this record half as much as I enjoyed making it - I will be a happy Sample

Hot-ish off the presses (well, I do need a bit longer to recover these days, sadly!), here's the first of two sets from this year's Glastonbury - another fine one both in weather and vibe, which in the Cornish definitely felt "bigger" this year - bigger DJ booth and a better sound system, which definitely lent itself to upscaled vibes in the choice of tunes of many a DJ i'd say... Thursday afternoon found us following on from Twin Sun's barrage of disco classics, which meant starting with something well known, but not wanting to duplicate their sound soon had me heading off into the musical hills and valleys as usual before a cheeky speedup half way through and an even cheekier ending with some right old stompers. 

Huge thanks as always to the lovely Cornish management & crew for having us, and to everyone that popped by for a drink and a boogie, it was great to see you!

At the end of the day all I really want to do is make records. 

So ( and this will make many dance music producers cringe) I took the basics stuck mostly to samples and started making records - with the aim of finishing music that is dance floor ready, easy to mix, identifiable to the listener and  simple to digest.
