We’re very happy to release this 2-track EP by Soul Beat Runna. He previously released a Free DL single (https://soundcloud.com/samsarab/soul-beat-runna-sly?in=samsarab/sets/singles-free-download)with our label that has been largely appreciated by our audience and supported by many DJs. 

The title-track is a 4x4 high energy old school, bass-driven track with a very interesting use of scat samples. The second track is more introspective with its trippy arpeggios.

Last but not least, ALL the proceeds of the EP will be donated to Mind https://www.mind.org.uk

“The idea for True Rebels came to me at the end of 2020. I wanted to make a Footwork/Jungle/160 track that paid homage to early Detroit Techno pioneers such as Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins. The piano riff came first and then the tune practically wrote itself. For the B-Side I made a couple of tracks that didn't make the grade and then came up with a 16 bar loop that I thought was ok. I struggled to think of a way to make it more interesting and then found a tune in my collection with the scat loop that I used to complete it. Ironically the B-Side turned out to be the better track so that is the title of the EP!
Regarding my decision to donate the profits to charity, my girlfriend and I have benefited greatly from the support of the people at Mind (https://www.mind.org.uk) over the years and I want to give something back to an organization that has changed our lives for the better, forever. @Yorobi (Josje Bijl) is an Amsterdam based dj & producer who started out dj-ing in the 1999 at a pirate radio station (Nautic Radio Groningen) in her home town of Groningen.

Since 2006 she can be found at jungletrain.net, where she’s broadcasting her bi-weekly live show.

As an artist, @Yorobi is quite versatile. Working as a DJ, a producer and visual artist, she draws influences from jungle and drum and bass. In her sets she incorporates all kinds of bass music related genres like juke, footwork, slowfast, dub, electro, half-time, hardcore, jungle tekno and more. Yorobi likes to operate on the left spectrum of bass music, weaving all kinds of genres and influences together.

2019 saw Yorobi play more and more throughout Europe like in London for the legendary Rupture night as well as at Deviate in Berlin, Grelle Forelle in Vienna and Membrain Festival in Sibenik. In her town of residence at places like her regular haunts OT301, Hill Street Blues (RIP), Melkweg, Hunters Grand Café and illegal raves.

Though 2020 has seen a definite slowdown in live gigs, it also marked the year where Yorobi debuted as a producer. Two collabs with Tim Reaper and one single release appeared on Pollination. “Rhodiola” (w/ Tim Reaper) came out on 12” on the Berlin based Parallax Recordings. “Drum Tree” (w/ Tim Reaper) came out on 12” as part of a Kickstarter campaign to launch South-London based record shop and dubplate cutting house Disc World. The last release of that year saw a tune called “Example 20” as part of a compilation to raise funds for refugees in Moria on Pollination.

In 2021 “Dark Days” followed next, which is a collab with Sun People on his ep which came out on Exit earlier this year.

These tracks have the perfect balance of rawness and intricacy that Kloke is known for and could be mistaken for lost dubs played at Rage or the Bluenote sessions with only a cassette recording to tell the tale. Luckily they are brand new tunes, crisply mastered at The Exchange and pressed on a 4 track 12inch. Label owner LQ reworks the title tune Dark Knight with signature low end power and dubwise sonic manipulation.

Moscow trio Champion Sound debuts on Defrostatica Records with dancehall legend Hawkeye from Kingston for "Ghetto Youth", a hard hitting 85 bpm declaration to own the weekend with a little less conversation. The russian jungle soundsystem crew vibes more casually on "Talk" but the tune can't shake the warning undertone. The B-side features two international remixes: the US vapourwave king Nmesh channels his inner crowd control abilities on "Ghetto Youth" whereas Sun People from Austria rebuilds "Talk" perfectly for an all-out 160 bpm breakbeat twist.

Selecting tunes for releases on Samurai Music is difficult as there is so many great tunes on offer. The absolute cream of what we get sent makes it to releases on vinyl, so resisting the temptation of digital only releases creates a backlog of high quality tunes. Outliers is a collection of music from the Samurai family of artists that were all in contention for vinyl release, but for one reason or another slipped through the cracks. Most of these are still in heavy rotation in many of our DJ sets, so rather than hogging them, we put together a collection for a Bandcamp only release. Most of these have never been played by more than a few select Samurai DJ’s and the producer themselves. Outliers shows the depth of talent these producers have with these sitting on their HD’s without a home. We don’t plan on moving into the digital only release field any time soon so maybe we can have this series as a semi regular substitute.
