It's been a long time since we've had a Dr Rubberfunk mix, but his back in full effect splicing breaks and beats and putting them back together in fine fashion. Plenty of cut n paste action both old and new, a few drum break heavy remixes and a whole host of 'jackin for beats'. 8ball - MLK Garage - 2024

One of my favourite mixes of all time - The Brothers In Rhythm Easter Hotmix for BBC Radio 1 (Pete Tong) 30 minutes of perfectly mixed dance music fire. I distinctly remember listening & recording it on my ghetto blaster and consequently wearing out the tape. 

I've long had the idea of recreating the mix as most copies online are cassette rips from '93 complete with 1FM jingles! 

I decided rather than just redo it, I would expand on it. Tracking down the original versions and extending the original mix from 30 minutes to CD length adding in extra tunes from that era either side of the original and put together as if I was mixing it back in my bedroom as a 17 year old in 1993. 

Hope you enjoy and mad props to Dave Seaman compiling the original mix back in the day.

We're back with a fantastic edit from @user-84053657 that should keep the summer toes moving. 

"Ah Ya Albi" is a song originally performed by Egyptian singer Hakim. The song, which translates to "Oh My Heart", is a popular Arabic song known for its energetic and emotional style. This song is the best manifestation of the period when Arabic folk (known as shaabi) expressing itself through contemporary sounds. 

Hakim, often called "The Lion of Shaabi," played a key role in popularizing this genre globally, infusing it with contemporary beats while keeping its roots in Egyptian street culture. "Ah Ya Albi" stands out for its catchy melody, powerful vocals, and the raw, heartfelt expression typical of shaabi music.

In her own words....

I chose this track because I have always been captivated by the vibrant and mystical sounds of Middle Eastern music. As a DJ, I often perform at parties dedicated to Middle Eastern electronic rhythms, one of which is held in Russia, in Orenburg, called Chastota 528. This track beautifully embodies the rich colors and soulful melodies of the East. When I first heard it, I was instantly inspired and felt a deep desire to transform it into an electronic version that would capture its essence and bring its magic to life on the dance floor.

As a producer, DJ and record collector I cant help myself when it comes to picking up samples used by some of the great producers. This mix features many of those moments. Apart from a few sneaky edits the tunes are as they appear on the original wax.
