The main melody of this song was inspired after watching a photo collage of my grandma’s life that was made by my mom 16 years after her passing, this past August.  A single phrase kept popping up: “Whenever I May Call”.  I always found photo collages and videos of deceased loved ones slightly cruel because when you see them, you may want to desperately reach out and touch them, making the reality of their death all the more stark.  I experienced this fully earlier in the year when I had a dream about my grandpa (who I never met). After spending time with him in the dream, I awoke to my dark, empty room and burst into uncontrollable sobs. I was completely surprised by the experience, seeing as I never knew him, but I feel as if I did. I decided to explore this paradox in this song and included references to dreams I’ve had about both of my grandparents.  I hope the song provides some comfort and helps in the realization that I eventually learned: that everyone you’ve ever loved, never really leaves you. They are only a call away. It doesn’t matter if you’re at work, giving a speech, listening to music, or driving a car.
