While burning at stake is most famous punishment including famous burning of Jeanne d'Arc by English, most common method of capital punishment was simple death by hanging. Infamous Salem witch trials, which were held at end of the general witchcraft hysteria at very end of 16th century, seen 19 executed victims (out of 30 something found guilty) being murdered by hanging. Victims of Salem included even more rare death by pressing, rare by fact executed victim was man - Giles Corey. Who was absolute fucking chad and was pressed to death in attempt of extract confession out of him. These attempts however failed, mostly due the fact Giles knew he is going to die either way and he also was aware of fact that if he plead guilty all of his property would go to church
