Cities and Memory: Sound Waves - The Ely Mariner

When creating this piece I decided to take quite an environmentalist approach by trying to propose an argument about the way we affecting our planets health through the use of sound. I chose to try and put across this idea by using recordings of natural and un-edited sound (streams,birds,rain etc) and contrasting it with harsh and metallic resonant sounds such as drills, saws and cars/trains. Through this way of working i was hoping to reflect on the theme of ruins and reclamation by suggesting how technology, machinery and ourselves are not working towards sustaining the planets health, both environmentally and through societies actions.
