"If ever there was a band custom made for sizzling summer nights, it's San Lunes. This group of fiery Tucsonites play a wicked mix of jazz, reggae, rock and funk, all wrapped up in a brassy groove. It's wonderfully heady stuff, guaranteed to get your blood pumping and your feet moving.

Singer (and songwriter / guitarist) Alex Hecker is in possession of a most agreeable voice, which inhabits a space just on the right side of a raspy growl, and remarkably, considering their primary purpose is filling local dance floors, his words mostly avoid cliché. Indeed, it's a real breath of fresh air listening to a lyricist with ideas and something novel to say.

Their self-titled debut is loaded with standout tracks, whether they're playing reggae tinged pop ("Livin' It Up"), big-band ska ("Shoes"), or best of all, rousing jazz-funk rock ("The Other Side"), the sort of thing that somehow brings to mind Phish, Cuban bar bands and spine-tingling Afro-Beat all at the same time. Miss them at your peril. "
