This whole mix is piece of art really. I listened to it over a 3 day period, mainly in public transport, before & after working hours... and what a bless ! Each song had somekind of a positive/uplifting emotional impact on me, helped me go through hard times like only music can do.  Massive S/O to you guys for the selection ! This month’s Under The Apricot Tree is ‘Jazz yapma’ - a guest mix from Aysu. Aysu is a dj and producer based in Naarm, heavily drawing inspiration from her Anatolian roots and her early love for hip-hop. Aysu enjoys a collation of up-beat tempos, ranging from golden age hip hop, to more modern offerings from the MENA region and beyond.

“It’s cancer season and nothing is more cancerian than a mix of nostalgic sounds. Jazz Yapma is a collection of Turkish songs that were once a fragment of living room sounds and car trips during my childhood and teen years.

Jazz Yapma ranges from an eclectic mixture of:
- Aranjman; old Turkish pop songs heavily influenced by foreign pop music from countries such as Italy, Spain and France
-Arabesque; melodies that are influenced by Arab, Balkan and Iranian music. Arabesque music often evokes scenes of hardship and longing.
- 90s Turkish pop
- Oriental hip hop and rap that originated from the Turkish and Kurdish diaspora as a way to revolt against racism and discrimination of non-dominant groups.”

Sam Don invited Brazilian Wax's Joe Osbourne to West London's incredible Boat Pod to speak to him about his latest compilation Hidden Waters: Strange and Sublime Sounds of Rio de Janeiro.  

Sam kicked off the show, playing some Brazilian classics before heading into more modern sounds including his personal highlights from Hidden Waters.   After a chat with Joe about how this incredible compilation came about, he then delivered a guest mix which went deeper, fully exploring the fascinating melting pot that is the modern Rio sound.
