A founding figure of Equinox and :affinity, Melbourne’s @sanctum-aus moves into any space with the desire to create an atmosphere.

Exporting a fluid blend of techno, acid, breakbeat, dub and electro – SANCTUM links together genres with an ear for groove and a playful attitude. Grounded in fast and deep rhythmics, his driving sound brings energy and funk to centre stage.

From a young age SANCTUM has seen visual textures and colour in sound, which he uses to create abstract artwork that visually describes his music. This led him to develop his own audio-visual mix series titled 'SANCTIFY' as well as artwork for Equinox and :affinity's events.

SANCTUM’s approach has garnered a memorable list of appearances supporting industry heavyweights such as FJAAK, SPFDJ, Matrixxman, AIROD and Regal in addition to Melbourne’s most prominent venues and festivals.

For the eight release of Room Trax (@roomfm) time travels straight back to sweaty underground raves from the early '90s. Angioma sets energetic chord progressions on top of a never-stopping, but always stomping kick drum in "Deficit“. Just right to dance away all current fears and melancholy. 

"Generation“ hits more organic triggers. With uplifting pads and straight forward plugging chords, this B-side is meant to be played loud. No compromises needed, once the driving hat-game builds up even more excitement towards this marching journey. 

And it’s a Belgian affair, when Phara hits the remix knobs for „Generation“, totally hitting the spot. A melodic drive through analog percussion towards an ever-growing climax expecting us, ready to visit the full frequency range on a high-level peak. 

Heading from Portugal is Re-Axis on the second remix duty for "Generation“. Slightly more dubby, but still ever-growing and forward moving, he perfectly merges Angioma’s original with a jacking drum programming and pulsing stabs, rounding up this record in a quality way.

Recorded live at our first Equinox event since lockdown, the absolute intention of this set was to bring a year's worth of pent-up energy to the dancefloor. I produced the artwork with the goal of bringing the uplifting and uncontainable energy we experienced in this moment to life.

Grounding these adventurous selections is a reliable foundation of fast rolling rhythms layered with melodic elements and percussive energy that brings a refreshingly 'funk' appeal to centre stage.

Intertwined with his passion for music is a love of making abstract digital art. These interests combined in the 2020 Melbourne lockdowns to form an audio-visual mix series titled 'SANCTIFY'. Each instalment is released with a cover artwork that attempts to capture and compliment the experience.

SANCTUM’s approach has garnered a memorable list of appearances supporting industry heavyweights such as FJAAK, SPFDJ, Matrixxman, AIROD and Regal. As well as a long-running catalogue of events spanning over 6 years as the co-founder and director of the @equinox-melbourne crew and :affinity series.
