NOVUS – ˈnɔːvus, new.

NOVUS was the set that took an intimate dancefloor in the Aussie bush into the 2022 New Year. After the tough years we’ve just had, my sights were set on lighting up the crowd with maximum groove, funk and energy. A release like times of old bringing with it the fresh energy of a New Year. I’ve produced the artwork to articulate what this feels like to me in sight and sound.

I created this artwork to visualize a descent into the unknown. The groove rolls deep and quick, always pushing for more energy. Yet i maintain playfulness and funk at the heart of my approach, even in darkness there is room to play. Never lose sight of the fun.

Recorded live at our first Equinox event since lockdown, the absolute intention of this set was to bring a year's worth of pent-up energy to the dancefloor. I produced the artwork with the goal of bringing the uplifting and uncontainable energy we experienced in this moment to life.

Exporting a fluid blend of techno, acid, breakbeat, trance, dub and electro – Melbourne’s SANCTUM links together genres with an ear for groove and a playful attitude. Grounding his adventurous selections is a reliable foundation of fast rolling rhythms, layered with melodies and percussive energy that brings a refreshingly 'funk' appeal to centre stage.

Intertwined with his passion for music is a love of making abstract digital art. These interests combined in the 2020 Melbourne lockdowns to produce his audio-visual mix series 'SANCTIFY', where each instalment is released with  cover artwork that attempts to capture and compliment the experience.

SANCTUM’s approach has garnered a memorable list of appearances supporting industry heavyweights such as FJAAK, SPFDJ, Matrixxman, AIROD and Regal. As well as a long-running catalogue of events spanning over 6 years as the co-founder and director of Melbourne’s Equinox and :affinity events.
