A founding figure of Equinox and :affinity, Melbourne’s @sanctum-aus moves into any space with the desire to create an atmosphere.

Exporting a fluid blend of techno, acid, breakbeat, dub and electro – SANCTUM links together genres with an ear for groove and a playful attitude. Grounded in fast and deep rhythmics, his driving sound brings energy and funk to centre stage.

From a young age SANCTUM has seen visual textures and colour in sound, which he uses to create abstract artwork that visually describes his music. This led him to develop his own audio-visual mix series titled 'SANCTIFY' as well as artwork for Equinox and :affinity's events.

SANCTUM’s approach has garnered a memorable list of appearances supporting industry heavyweights such as FJAAK, SPFDJ, Matrixxman, AIROD and Regal in addition to Melbourne’s most prominent venues and festivals.

A new beginning has arrived..

I invite you to dive deep into my inaugural set recorded at the soft-launch of Zanda Rec — 17.06.2023 named ‘New Beginnings’

As you may know, Zanda is my new events brand and record label based in the Northern Rivers of Australia (Bundjalung Country).

I had the opportunity to run an open-air event with an intimate crowd of friends to start its journey.

And the beginning of this journey has been ever so blissful… 

I named the mix 'New Beginnings' as it's the first under my solo alias 'Torü Szafar'. 

After waiting for the right moment to release the mix, I am thrilled to be finally sharing it with you all. 

It encapsulates what I have been listening to recently and shows some of the sounds I want to share. 

You will find a mixture of deep house and techno tracks by some incredible artists, as well as four original productions (3 of those unreleased). 

I hope you all enjoy the mix and feel the energy from the night. It was a wonderful experience collecting all these tracks and playing them to a beautiful crowd in a luscious, cozy environment.

It's hard to put into words exactly what Dal Ocal is and has become in what was it's 4th edition..

To put it simply, it's a private gathering of close friends that come together and build a small festival for each other on beautiful, sacred Australian bushland, so that they can frolic, play, laugh, cry, dance, connect & much much more.

It truly is a magical 5 days that we spend together co-creating with the purest intentions.

This set was recorded from 9:30-10:30pm on NYE. It was an absolute pleasure to share music at this time and build towards bringing in the new year.

I created this artwork to visualize a descent into the unknown. The groove rolls deep and quick, always pushing for more energy. Yet i maintain playfulness and funk at the heart of my approach, even in darkness there is room to play. Never lose sight of the fun.

Grounding his adventurous selections is a reliable foundation of fast rolling rhythms, layered with melodies and percussive energy that brings a refreshingly 'funk' appeal to centre stage.

Intertwined with his passion for music is a love of making abstract digital art. These interests combined in the 2020 Melbourne lockdowns to produce his audio-visual mix series 'SANCTIFY', where each instalment is released with  cover artwork that attempts to capture and compliment the experience.

SANCTUM’s approach has garnered a memorable list of appearances supporting industry heavyweights such as FJAAK, SPFDJ, Matrixxman, AIROD and Regal. As well as a long-running catalogue of events spanning over 6 years as the co-founder and director of Melbourne’s Equinox and :affinity events.
