7th and last mix for the series i did for super chef Sergio Herman's Oud Sluis restaurant. Sergio decided to close the doors of his beloved laboratory to go and take the best of what he has learned into his new enterprise in Antwerp starting next year. Burning Man: where each year brings a whirlwind of adventures, surprises, and moments that stick with you long after the dust settles. And in the midst of all that chaos, there's DISTRIKT; an oasis of fun and entertainment that looks straight from a Mad Max movie gone wild, takes the Burning Man experience to a whole new level. 

My inaugural gig at DISTRIKT two years back was a textbook case of Burning Man madness. Picture this: a monstrous sandstorm sweeping across the playa, me wandering around lost on my bike, fashionably late to my own set. But did DISTRIKT panic? Nah. They greeted me with a fresh smoothie to kickstart my DJing journey amidst the swirling dust. Classic!

Fast forward to my most recent escapade at DISTRIKT, and Mother Nature decided to throw a curveball — cue the floodwaters!! Yet, the flood came fashionably late, conveniently after my set. But that night? Dehydration was the name of the game. AND my Traktor, bless its digital soul, decided it wasn't in the mood to play nice with the mixer. And there I was, parched AF like a desert plant, with everyone and their playa cousins offering me water tequila while I attempted to update the mixer driver in a haze of confusion, and of course, the DISTRIKT gang was there on top of the whole process to get me up and running - literally and musically. 

In true playa fashion the show must go on. Cue the backup USBs swooping in to save the day. And just when I thought it couldn't get any wilder, in strolls Diplo himself, ready to unveil our collaborative masterpiece ‘Anthem' to the world (although at the time we did’t have name for it yet). But wait, there's more — did you know those dusty X1 Traktor controllers could go wireless? Neither did I, until Diplo schooled me, adding cowbells to our track live like a mad musical scientist.

So without further ado, here's a glimpse into that glorious night before the floods—a sonic journey through the madness and magic of DISTRIKT at Burning Man. Enjoy the ride.  ~ Sharam

this set is a great representation of our 2007 sound, which incorporated lots of techno, progressive house, trance and indie rock.

Gabriel & Dresden live at Vision Chicago, 29 December 2007

for this "throwback thursday" we offer up one of the most classic G&D live sets based on fan comments over the years.

in 2005, we started up our own label Organized Nature so that we could release our music. We decided to throw a WMC party at a small club on Lincoln Road called Rumi to celebrate. The night was a sellout with a line down the street all night. It was only us DJing and a live performance by Jes Brieden just before we started.

We played a 4 and half hour set that night all of which was recorded. Unfortunately, whoever recorded the set did so in mono (dave!) but having it in mono is better than not having it at all.

we went back and re-mastered it so that the levels were more consistent. so even if you already own this set, you will want to re-download it as it sounds way more tight now.

Whether it’s producing, remixing or dj’ing, Sander Kleinenberg has been building credibility on all fronts for over twenty-five years. He has established himself as an advocate of progress and most of all, a pivotal player on the frontier of electronic music. Starting out dj-ing at merely fifteen years old, a young Sander Kleinenberg was inspired by club music and hip-hop culture in the late eighties. This cultural shift inspired his own musical path, which in turn led to him traveling the world and spreading his sound along the way. Many awards, accolades and having performed all corners of the world later you could say it was destiny. 

Often mentioned when talking about the first wave of superstar dj’s from the progressive house wave around the turn of the century, Sander brought a mixture genres and styles to the table like never heard before. Quirky disco, psychedelia, Detroit techno, straight up soul and industrialism contributed greatly to the ever-evolving musical landscape in the ‘90s and 00’s. Sander’s eclectic persona and capability to always be two steps ahead of the rest have resulted in him being an award-winning dj and producer. As time passes by and his career unfolds, the pattern within it becomes more and more visible, Sander is a man on the move, always searching for the “perfect mix” in his own words. Sander’s relentless passion for perfection has kept him away from classification, putting hours upon hours into the enrichment of dj- and producer identity. Constantly twisting and shaping sounds. It’s this search for relevance in electronic musics development that keeps him re-inventing himself in every decade that has gone by since those early days. 

Today Sander looks back at his journey and thought it was time to make up the balance of all the corners of progress his career has taken him. You could call it a full circle type moment settling for nothing else but quality. If you are looking for someone who has searched high and low and has taken that into his current musical identity then Sander is your man. Like a fine wine matured into something wonderful.. Weaving generations, styles and a healthy eye on the future together in a relevant cocktail of musical maturity. In 2024 after a time of rejuvenation you can find Sander at a select number of dates around the world, revisiting his love for the clubs and countries that accompanied his journey along the way. He has a string of releases on the way marking his comeback to the dance floor both behind the decks and in the charts. It is time to once again rekindle his ability to bring levity and fun back to the dance floors.
