Den här sången kom till av sig själv, när jag satt och plinkade på pianot och bara försökte hitta en meditativ känsla. Jag kände att det efter en stund blev mer än bara en ljudmatta. En melodi mejslade sig fram och det kändes givet att texten skulle vara aningen repetitiv, eftersom grundtonen var meditativt suggestiv. Ett samtidigt både sparsamt och svulstigt arrangemang gjorde den komplett. Skriven 2023 och var den ständiga följeslagaren på mina sextioårfester. 

This song was composed, when I was just trying to find a meditative feeling, playfully playing the piano. Suggestive and repeating lyrics along with a perfect arrangement completed the song. Written in 2023 and I sang it at all my partys when I turned 60.

I was born in 1963, grew up in Bromma, Stockholm, where I accidently (?) discovered music in early years. Beginning school, I was terrified to spend the lunch break in the school yard with all the nearly grown-up boys. My mother, however, had an acquaintance, living opposite my school and I was welcome to visit her when I wanted or needed. My mother’s friend just happened to be a piano teacher, so soon we started playing together. I’m not exactly surrounded by musical relatives, so otherwise my talent perhaps hadn’t been discovered that early. Or not at all…

Not until I was nearly twenty, I started playing the guitar. Until then I had thought that the world was wisely arranged for my childhood’s best friend to play the guitar and for me to play the piano. Having discovered that you can manage both, I arranged my first guitar course within a year, in 1984 – I had a lot of catching up to do…

I started composing in the beginning of the eighties, entered a choir in 1986, started bands in the end of the eighties and I have played (mostly bass and song) in many constellations, always mostly 50’s and 60’s. I have worked as a music teacher for fourteen years and nowadays I conduct choirs both for children and adults, write choir arrangements, teach guitar and perform as troubadour here and there. Ukulele, accordion and harmonica are occasionally in use, but the main acts are piano, guitar, bass and song.

My own compositions have been appearing during forty years with an intense period of 50:s-60:s-inspired pop 25-30 years ago, then developing into more extended songs, with lyrics just as important as the melodies. I don’t know whether to classify them as ballads or what, so I humbly prefer to call them epic songs.

Up to today I have recorded most of my songs and now I have posted them on Soundcloud. But still more to come! Keep watch!

As an amateur with a simply equipped studio in the basement, it is meaningless to strive for, and even more impossible to achieve, perfection. OK, I record, erase and record repeatedly, and it takes many mixes to make me satisfied, but overall, I trust feeling, inspiration and improvisation. Whatever will be will be. It’s a bit like preparing a gratin, shove it in the oven and hope for the best…

I record on a Zoom R-16 in my own basement and apart from borrowing the drums from my Casio digital piano, I play all the instruments and sing all the harmonies. The arrangements are mine. Since catching a chronic lung disease in 2001 and I no longer have the strength to rehearse with a band, it’s a privilege to be able to play and sing with others in my basement – even if all the others are me…
