I don’t really focus on any one genre - I just pick what sounds good to me, so it tends to come out eclectic. There’s music in here from me, some of my friends and some people I admire. Session Victim’s 5th studio album ‘LOW KEY, LOW PRESSURE’ feels like an anathema to today’s fast paced, industry driven musical landscape – and for all the right reasons.
Having released two intense, dancefloor-focused 12“s on Rhythm Section and Delusions Of Grandeur over the past year, their return to NIGHT TIME STORIES brings out their trippy, headsy side once again.
And despite the pandemic downtime being over, Hauke and Matthias remain holed up in the studio, jamming, head nodding to drum breaks and churning out records like the one in front of you.
Spanning 10 tunes – 12 if you count the limited bonus 7“ that comes with the first pressing – the LP is undiluted Session Vic- tim, with their occasional trio partner Carsten “Erobique“ Meyer as the sole musical guest on the library-esque SOFT LANDING, a tune reminiscent of something the boys would try to hunt down on one of their compulsive record store rummages to feed it to their Akais.
You’ll also find the sequel to one of their cornerstone tracks from their 2020 album NEEDLEDROP, Jazzbeat 07. (It’s JAZZ- BEAT 08, in case you were wondering.) And it's premiered here!

Downtime Premiere: Session Victim - Jazzbeat 08 [Night Time Stories]

Feeling Blue present their sophomore release from label head Azure and long-time musical partner Ben Murray as 2XM, with a complementary remix from enigmatic Ōtautahi producer, Caramel Smooth Heaven.

The 3-track E.P. delivers signature 2XM sounds; floating melodics and vocal lines over intricate percussive programming, that continues to extend and cement the label’s sonic direction. “Close To Me” speaks to an internal monologue that could be found seeing in the dawn of a late club night amongst strangers, or intimately at home with the one you love. Smooths remix rounds out the E.P, providing further introspection from a more drawn back tempo.

The tracks on ‘low key, low pressure’ feel effortless, but they can only have been created by musicians who are masters of their craft – even though they both swear “the music was just playing us, we just pressed the record”. Fifteen years after releasing their debut, Session Victim are taking stock on ‘low key, low pressure’, their new long player that is hosted on Night Time Stories, and up for release this week. This is their fifth studio album and is, in many ways, an homage to their career. It is most certainly a record that will tell you what the German duo are all about.

Inspired by their passion for touching all corners of the electronic world, the collection showcases ten carefully crafted productions produced in the intensity of their tight Berlin production bubble. Containing an undoubted sense of nostalgia, ‘low key, low pressure’ works for ultra late Saturday nights, just as it would play out beautifully as the sun comes up on sleepy Sunday mornings. It’s synth effects and drum chops are cut with hip-hop breakbeats and hazy melodies to engage you, while songs like ‘Walk In The Park’ leave space for thought and reflection, track ‘Mycelium Dub’ and it’s foggy, meditative vibe will both hypnotise and mesmerise. Here Session Victim demonstrate their talent for melding musical worlds on this ten track missive, providing us with a timely reminder that the German underground duo are going nowhere and have plenty to offer.

	“I went classic with the tune selection.  I’ve been spending a lot of time with my record collection in the last 6 or so months..  I started DJing in the late 90s so have a lot of great records from a golden era of house music, and my taste (which constantly shifts) has really focused on late 90s house of late - as such there are four records from that era included in the mix, from Rob Mello, Charlie Brown, Stacy Kidd, and Moodymann.
