Anand Ranganathan makes a case for why it is BR Ambedkar and not Mahatma Gandhi who deserves the honorific title of “Father of the Nation” for his indispensable contribution in the making of modern India, in drafting the Constitution, and more importantly, for his pivotal efforts to get the country out of the mire of caste-prejudice and untouchability.

Ambedkar not only sought emancipation of the untouchables, he went further – he fearlessly demanded the catharsis of Indians to atone for the ‘darkness of untouchability’.

Ambedkar’s genius lay in his towering intellect, his clarity of mind and his fearlessness of speaking it. He spared no one.

While his scathing critique of the Caste System and Hinduism is well known, his lesser-known but equally scathing criticism of Communism, of Islam and of the Mahatma and his role in the Khilafat movement leading to Moplah massacres of Hindus, bear testimony to a sharpness of intellect ‘forged with the fortitude of scientific logic’.

Ambedkar : The Real Father of Nation | Anand Ranganathan | #SangamTalks

A former journalist, New Delhi-based Anuj Dhar is well-known for his research and activism relating to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, especially the issue of his death. Through his efforts and talks, Dhar has revived memories of Subhas Bose among millions around the world.

Dhar's 2012 bestselling book "India's biggest Cover-up" triggered the movement for declassification of the Subhas Bose files and inspired Alt Balaji's hit web series "Bose: Dead/Alive". In 2018, Dhar wrote "Your Prime Minister is Dead", which is first-ever comprehensive study of the enduring Lal Bahadur Shastri death mystery. Both the books have different editions, including in Hindi. Dhar provided inputs for Vivek Agnihotri's film "The Tashkent Files" before writing his book.

Dhar's latest offering is "Conundrum: Subhas Bose's life after death" (2019), which he has co-authored with Chandrachur Ghose. Given the subject matter of the book, it became a talking point much before its release. In fact, it is set to be turned into a major movie by national award winning filmmaker Srijit Mukherjee, with a top of the line star-cast led by Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee.

Chandrachur Ghose is a writer on economics, environment, history and politics. He has had a multi-disciplinary career spanning over two decades, having worked with one of the most well-known environmental organisations in India, an academic institute of global excellence and an economic research firm that is a trusted brand among Indian businesses. Ghose has worked on issues as varied as air pollution, food safety, agriculture, renewable energy, mining, infrastructure development, employment, consumption expenditure, and the development trajectories of India's states.

Ghose, along with Anuj Dhar and other friends formed the pressure group Mission Netaji in 2005 to generate public awareness over the official secrecy on matters related to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Since then he has been instrumental in bringing thousands of Netaji-related classified documents into the public domain.

Ghose completed his BSc in Botany from Visva Bharati (Santiniketan) and MSc in Science and Technology for Sustainability from SPRU, University of Sussex. Having co-authored "Conundrum", Ghose is currently working on a biography of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

K. K. Muhammed talks about the evidences that surfaced during the Ram Janmabhoomi excavations conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India. It proved beyond doubt the existence of a temple beneath the Babri Masjid.  A close examination of the remains revealed various artifacts that could only be part of a temple. It was quite evident that the Masjid was erected on the debris of a temple.

K. K. Muhammed mentions that left historians like Irfan Habib and Romila Thapar had thwarted an amicable settlement to the Babri Masjid issue. The Babri issue would have been settled long ago if the Muslim intelligentsia had not fallen prey to the brain washing by the Marxist historians.

What Do The Ram Janmabhoomi Excavations Tell Us? | K K Muhammed | Ayodhya | ASI | #SangamTalks

In this very enlightening talk, Anand Prasad talks about understanding the Supreme Court ruling on Sabarimala. He questions why is it difficult for the court to see the traditional Indian viewpoint? The notion is that a secular State is viewed as a godless state, as against a State that accepts all gods. The court is an institution of rational thought and hence struggles to sanctify an argument in myth. There are multiple schools of Hinduism and they differ from each other. The problem arises when the court applies principles of the bhakti school (or the idea of “faith”) to other schools of Hinduism.

For presenting the arguments in review before the Supreme Court, the science of temples need to be understood, the science of energy needs to be understood. It is also important to understand that there are different rules for different rituals and how the difference to one set of people may look like discrimination to another set of people.

An abuse of the rules of a temple could result in a depletion of the temple’s specific energy and an eventual destruction.

Anand Prasad is a corporate lawyer, based in Delhi, with more than 27 years of experience representing both domestic and international clients on a variety of legal and commercial issues within and outside India.

In late 1999/early 2000, Anand helped co-found Trilegal, which today is one of the premium law firms in India. In March, 2017 Anand left Trilegal in the hope of contributing directly to society while at the same time practicing law as an independent counsel. In this role, on a bro bono basis, Anand’s work has included (i) assisting start-ups with financial investment transactions and generally structuring/restructuring their businesses, and (ii) advising citizens from poorer sections of society on a variety of civil and criminal law issues. He has also been providing mentorship to individual lawyers and small law firms and advising them with their practice development.

Other than being a lawyer, Anand has a keen interest and spends considerable time studying ancient Indian history, including in a religo/spiritual context. In his view, defining the multiple religious/cultural traditions in India as one religion, i.e. “Hinduisim”, is a major error coming from the days of European rule in India, which continues to be perpetuated in today world. This viewpoint has been the biggest contributor to the divisions in modern Indian society. The speaker deep dives in ancient southern history and demolishes the Dravidian claims in favor of a pan-Indian identity. He analyzes the latest available papers on genetics, archaeology (2019), and roundup along with past evidence of what they imply for the ancient history of India.

Dr Raj Vedam mentions how the astronomical model is common to India. He states that the names of the Nakshatras in the Northern and the Southern India are not much different and even if there are regional variations, the similarities are more. He talks about how the Max Mueller dates can be demolished using the Astronomical model.

Dr Vedam talks about similar cultural practices across time and geography and emphasises on the theory of cultural continuity of civilisation. According to him, the destruction of Indian identity by malicious forces must be contested and neutralised with evidence-based claims.

The Indic civilization has had rich, hoary Kshatriya traditions which gave rise to equally rich and profound martial traditions like the Sanatan Shastra Vidya, which literally means the ‘timeless science of weapons.’ This ancient art of battle is traced back to Adi Deva Shiva who gave this knowledge to Pashupats, from whom it passed on to Kapaliks, Nagavanshis, Suryavanshis and subsequently to Rajputs, Naths, Sikhs, Marathas, Jats and other martial communities of India. Guru Nidar Singh Nihang, the sole surviving Guru of the classical Baba Darbara Singh Shastar Akhara established in 1661, gives us a fascinating account of how Shastra Vidya flourished in India till the arrival of the British, who not only banned possession of weapons but subdued and suppressed all native martial traditions and systematically laid them to waste. Improvising ways to hoodwink the British to keep their weapons, the brave Nihangs strove against all odds to preserve their closely guarded art which was teetering on the brink of extinction. Demonstrating the technical and metaphysical aspects of Shastra Vidya encompassing martial yoga, body mechanics and other sophisticated, highly swift and efficient techniques, Guru Nidar Singh Ji makes a case for the revival of this forgotten science, deeply rooted in Hindu and Sikh martial, historical and spiritual traditions.

Vada is the discussion of two different claims or positions, based on the evidence and logic, without deviation from the established tenets of Nyaya-darshana (science of reasoning/logic).  Bhagavan Krishna describes genuine debate as ‘वाद: प्रवदतामहम् i.e. Philosophical discussion to discern the truth as the manifestation of the Bhagavan.

There are multiple claims for the year of the Mahabharata War.  Shri Nilesh Nilkanth Oak claims 5561 BCE while Dr. Manish Pandit claims  3067 BCE, for the year of the Mahabharata War.  They make these claims based on internal astronomy evidence of the Mahabharata text.

Year Of The Mahabharata War: Reestablishing The Tradition of 'Vada' - 1 | Nilesh Oak | Manish Pandit

It is common knowledge that Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead in 1948 by Nathuram Godse, shortly after India had both gained her independence and lost nearly a quarter of her territory to the new state of Pakistan. What is less known is Godse’s motives. Until now, no publication and no mainstream media has dealt with this question, except for the naked text of Godse's own defence speech during his trial. It didn't save him from the hangman, but still contains substantive arguments against the facile glorification of the Mahatma. Dr Koenraad Elst compares Godse's case against Gandhi with criticisms voiced in wider circles, and with historical data known at the time or brought to light since. While the Mahatma was extolled by the Hindu masses, political leaders of divergent persuasions who had had dealings with him were less enthusiastic. Their sobering views would have become the received wisdom about the Mahatma if he hadn't been martyred. Yet, the author also presents some new considerations in Gandhi's defence from unexpected quarters.

And why is it that the Hindu society never asked the questions that Dr Koenraad has addressed in the book? The speaker remarks in his book, “The RSS attitude of spurning the intellect and denouncing the intellectuals has worked as a self-fulfilling prophecy: since they left the intellectual field entirely to their enemies, the available intellectuals would not be “of any use to the nation”, meaning not sympathizing to the RSS programme. The political Hindu movement has paid a heavy price for this silly anti-intellectual prejudice.”

A Belgian Indologist and one of the few Westerners to actively defend Hinduism, Dr. Koenraad Elst (°Leuven 1959) distinguished himself early on as eager to learn and to dissent. The Rigveda has many suktas praising the eternal parents, the Heaven and the Earth, but the Bhumi Suktam mostly studied is from the Atharva Veda. It is a hymn comprising of 63 mantras to Mother Earth. ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr. Gauri Mahulikar is Dean and Professor at Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth, deemed-to-be-university, Ernakulam. She was the Gurudev Tagore Chair of Comparative Literature Professor and former HOD of Sanskrit at Mumbai University where she was instrumental in launching courses in Manuscriptology, Bhakti Literature and Mysticism. She holds a Doctorate in Sanskrit on ‘Vedic Elements in Puranic Mantras and Rituals’. She has published eight books and over 90 research articles. A passionate teacher, Dr. Mahulikar has mentored several doctoral students, 17 being awarded Ph.D degree and is often invited as a speaker by universities and other organisations. She is a member of the Board of Advisors at Indic Today and of the Academic Advisory Board as Eminent Expert of K J Somaiya Institute of Dharma Studies. She is an eminent expert on the board of CIIL, Mysuru. She is Kulapati of Sanskrit Samvardhan Pratishthan, an NGO working on value education in school children and Vice President of Itihas Sankalan Samiti, Konkan region

But the Muslim League-led government in undivided Bengal began to practise such abject discrimination against Hindus that he was persuaded to join politics. He left an indelible mark in politics in the succeeding years, culminating in creation of West Bengal as a homeland for Bengali Hindus and a state of India.

About the Speaker:
athagata Roy is the former Governor of Tripura, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. He joined the RSS in 1986, the BJP in 1990 and was the state president of the party in West Bengal 2002-2006. He is an author of five books in English and Bengali.

We Indians know intuitively that the history imposed on us is not our history at all. It is the history of invaders glorifying their invasions. And yet, for over 70 years of independence, we Indians have not managed to cleanse the biases of the colonial imposition of history on us. Sanjeev Sanyal makes a case for telling Indian history the way it happened to us - from the perspective of Indians.

Freeing Hindu Temples from Government Control | Advocate J Sai Deepak| #SangamTalks

For over two decades, a handful of Left historians have strenuously endeavoured to stymie the Ramjanmabhumi movement.  From questioning the antiquity of Rama worship and the identity of ancient Ayodhya, they have also challenged the widely held belief that Babri Masjid was built on the site of the Janmabhumi temple. 

The antiquity of the Rama Katha has, however, been traced as far back as sixth-fifth century BCE, when ancient ballads (akhyanas) transmitted Rama’s story orally. Valmiki’s Ramayana itself has been dated to the fourth-third century BCE. Over the centuries, Rama’s story has been re-told in many vernaculars of the country. Rama is the exemplar of moral values for Hindu society and epitomises its aspirations above all, for dharma.

The proceedings of the Allahabad High Court have exposed the vulnerabilities of Left historians. They could proffer no evidence of continued Muslim presence at Babri Masjid, while the unwavering commitment of Hindu devotees to the site has been attested by several sources. Babri Masjid was not mentioned in the revenue records of the Nawabi and British periods, nor was any Waqf ever created for its upkeep.  No Muslim filed an FIR or complained of dispossession or obstruction in his alleged use of the Masjid when the image of Sri Rama was placed under the central dome on 23rd December 1949.  The Sunni Central Waqf Board entered litigation on 18th December 1961, just five days before the twelfth anniversary of the placement of the image in the Masjid, on which date any claim would have become time-barred. The Board did not file a suit for possession; instead it sought a declaration on the status of the property.

Further, excavations of the ASI revealed uninterrupted occupation of the site since the 13th century BCE. They also exposed remnants of the temple on which Babri Masjid was erected. The assertions of Left historians on Babri Masjid have all been found to be erroneous; yet there has been no public retraction. Indeed, they continue to peddle their discredited theories despite the mounting evidence against them
