A Boorloo born treasure returns to its home shores for the holidays. The undeniably adored Jo has been and still continues to be an integral part of the music community spanning between Perth & Melbourne. Although Jo had already left for Melbourne before I got to meet her, her name was echoed among peers whether it be the alias Toni Yotzi (RIP Tony Yozzi) or Jo. From Day Woo to Deep Doogs Jo’s commitment to bring alternative dance parties to the scene never went unnoticed or unappreciated. No matter how far and wide her talents may take her across this globe, she will always remain a true G.

Jo: "I love when the environment allows for a long game, when music feels like mist, an all encompassing presence but not intrusive. There's no anxiety waiting for the next track to be mixed quickly, with long form music being woven into a new journey. I love subtle intensity, metallic textures with breathing room, sweetness and lots of melancholia. 

I've finally come to place where I 'mostly' feel mixes exist because of a certain time and emotional place. It's not the last exploration, so they don't need to represent all parts of you in your entirety. They're a moment, not your life's work.

Here's this one, not perfect, but from where I was standing everything and everyone was. 

I can't properly describe what a deep joy it was to play for old + new friends. I am profoundly grateful that a year of missing, distance and disconnection allowed me to feel so embraced and cared for throughout the beautiful Boorloo summer. Thank you Monty ❤ thank you friends, thank you family.

Jo Lettenmaier - 13.2.2021

London musician @shek-o –aka Matt Scowcroft– studied at Durham University, specialising in electroacoustic composition and sound design. Although he has been producing music for more than a decade, his release for Lapsus marks his first artist album, perhaps surprising considering the overriding maturity and precision found in his output.

His debut entitled ‘Bancha' was produced throughout 2020 and skilfully demonstrates his affinity for improvisation and modular systems. The 10-track album was predominantly created from longer original compositions that have been meticulously warped and modified, resulting in an innovative and unique body of work.

Although Shek O operates in essentially ambient terrains, the British artist’s influences are wide-ranging. His overall sound bucks convention, with ‘Bancha' incorporating elements of IDM, glitch, deconstructed dub-techno and psychedelic experimental electronica, to form music without complexes or clichés.

‘Bancha' will be released mid-April 2021 on cassette (limited to 50 copies) and all digital formats.

Test subject 1.18 @waspfm observes the ebb and flow of an outlandish and highly complex ecosystem of sound from "distorted biospheres" and "alien landscapes". Traversing through this environment, one becomes immersed within the sonic layers of a cohesive living and breathing biological community. Cyclical tension and angst among organisms pave the way for divine resolve and harmony, the balance becomes disrupted and the cycle restarts. Truly an incredible journey.

"Field recordings or natural soundscapes are, like noise, often unfocused, fragmented and chaotic. This can be gentle and abrasive all within the same breath. A good recording of, say, a meadow will include thousands of layers of living organisms. Even a shallow recording will still pick up larger animals, insects and most commonly birds which are often the focal point. Being given an image of an environment to build around changed my usual process a lot. My image contained an alien landscape complete with otherworldly sky, clouds and green distorted biospheres. This meant that the use of field samples, mostly collected from my immediate environment, would not create the landscape depicted, as they concerned the home and known environments. I changed up the way I look for music instead focusing on different animals I could envision living in this environment. I began researching various song birds that became extinct before archiving could note down their sound. Their bone structure, beak shape and lung capacity all meticulously evolved to create a sound that no longer exists. Archiving is such an important part of recording environments especially as these environments get smaller and quieter with the expansion of cities. Almost every environmental element of this mix, from the rustling of insects to the harsh call of birds is built on hardware.
