The wonderful Chicago producer Nick Stoynoff heads up the relaunch of Blake Jarrell’s incredible imprint Concentration with ‘Deserve’. Remixes came from an impressive trio: Ranj Kaler, Zuccasam and David Calo.

  Launched in 2014 by long-time producer friends Blake Jarrell and Jeff Varisco as a conduit for music unshakled by expectation or vested interest. Art for the enjoyment of all. Originally released in 2019 as part of a dreamy double A side, ‘Deserve’ showcased Nick Stoynoff’s incredible studio skills and sound design talents. A tough soulful groover that could transport the room.   

On remix duties, three on-form producers bringing their unique sound to bear on the rich sonic tapestry of Stoynoff's melancholy journey. First up, David Calo applies a deft tribal feel allowing the sonics to form a powerful melancholysoundscape. Relentless and engaging, the plucky Argentinian mirrors the originals tough stadium feel. Next up, Ranj Kaler takes on a wild broken beat ride with his ‘Reap Waht You Sow’ mix. Steeped in UK Bass folklore the jungle breaks feels add a new dimension. Finally, fellow Londoner Zuccasam drops his melodic techno vision. Tough, uncompromising drums provide ample framework on which a mutating bass and sonic ear candy totally captivate.

Argentinian Kevin Di Serna worked with Santor last time he was on Sasha's label and remains a powerhouse producer who always brings rich emotion. He is a master of meaningful melody and has collaborated with notable labels such as Innervisions, Watergate, Sudbeat, and All Day I Dream, while becoming a contemporary progressive favourite. Henry Saiz, meanwhile, has appeared both solo and in collaboration with Sasha here this year. He has long been a studio wizard with forward-facing techniques and genre-defying grooves on his own Natura Sonoris. As such, this is a dream pairing for fans of melodic house and techno.

'Technicolour' opens with a meticulous cascade of sugary, pixelated synths that rise and fall, coalescing into a soothing lullaby as the drums remain deep. There is a grand scale to this track that sweeps you oﬀ your feet and has you floating above the floor on waves of melody that turn ever more acidic but never lose their optimistic edge. The vibrant 'Atemporal' is another rush of kaleidoscopic melody that serves as a celestial portal. Whispered voices, wispy pads, and more rugged arps ascend to the skies as the serene grooves cuddle and comfort you from below.

Opening the EP with ‘Humans Being Humans’ we are suitably introduced to Leiarz’ accomplished sound. Building slowly, the track takes shape organically, adding tension and pose, before dropping into a piano-centric encore. Next up, the subtle tribal grunt of ‘Let’s Turn Up’ takes it up notch or two. Aimed squarely at the pre-peak floors, this is Facundo in heads down and dance mood. Chunky drums, hypnotic rhythms and melodics whip up a storm. Finally, ‘Tempting Things’ calms things off. Rubbery bass, sparse percussion and disco melodics take the finalé off on a wonderful, unexpected tangent.
