Mayhem & Logam are back for the ninth installment on Santoku Records. The two Atlanta heavyweights maintain a consistent style that showcases their love for both Neuro and Minimal funk. SAN009 is a dynamic release, representing the manifold layers that comprise Drum and Bass music. Intense, intelligent, innovative, and intriguing; “Infinity” has plenty of vibes for the deep heads and just enough grit for the “bass face” lovers.

The title track is a precision piece of neuro funk primed to sweep feet across any dance floor. Infinity builds from an intriguing array of synths that merge gracefully into an attention grabbing melody right before your ears; creating the space for the clean and somewhat nostalgic drum beats to flow in smoothly and coalesce the sounds into a single shape. This shape is given extra dimension when the in your face bass line drops, focusing the track’s energy and setting your shoes to auto pilot. The song weaves in and out of its layers and give this A-side credence to it naming, arranging an infinite mind scape and maintaing a constant groove sure to satisfy your head space and your bass face.

Backing up this solid piece of work, is an equally as masterful, while different style of cut on the rear side of the release. Aphelion combines a lush and deep sound with underground darkness that swells together as a remarkable piece of progressive drum and bass from the minimal spectrum of the genre’s wide lens. Crystal clean and chilled out sounds are the foundation that the track builds on, creating an ice cold zone that is quickly juxtaposed by a rumbling and gritty low-end attack. The track maintains this love/hate relationship following spaced out sonics through the breakdown before hammering home with its blistering bass line business; sure to cross arms, rock shoulders, and bob heads from front to back. Not one to miss, this track’s sure to light fire to your sets unexpectedly, this B-side is prone to be quite the weapon for drum and bass Dj’s across a range of sounds.

Take a step on the Space Journey, as Logam's amazing Santoku Records presents the new EP from the Massachusetts based neurofunk producer. The Disassemble EP showcases Space Journey's tough, uncompromising style, and will fit right in on a label which has given the world music from names like Mayhem, Gridlok, Jade, Trei, Hooves and Logam himself.

And Santoku is only the latest landing point for Space Journey, after Close 2 Death, Mindtech, Future Funk and others, and is testament to the hard work that the artist has put in, moving from dancefloor d&b towards a more space-age, techstep-influenced sound.

Aeon is a perfect realisation of this - a slowly building tune which expands at the drop, firing lazers into the future with a combination of pulsating drums and eerie, echoing synths. The bass is bad, bad, bad, deep, dark and heavy. The track moves through, highlighting the single-minded approach that Space Journey takes, ramping back up at the end for a killer finish. Likewise the title cut, which explodes into life quickly, echoing the march of some supersonic race of robots. Here, the low end crunches into your speakers, burning a hole in your set before you even realise. Bounce and break along to the beats, you won't be disappointed as your mind and soul get Disassembled.

Jump on the Motorcycle for the third track, a rapid trip into the future which incorporates elements of electro along with the nasty sounding neurofunk. Plenty of pace and acceleration mark this one out, as it rides along on a highway of vicious synth stabs and understated beats. Closing things out is The Lost, a fitting culmination to the EP. Voyage through realms of artificial intelligence, with military beats, echoing basslines and a sharp, coruscating atmosphere. Space Journey is clearly a name to watch despite being relatively new, and the Disassemble EP is the start of something very big.

Two talents, one from Lithuania and the other from Estonia. Together Marius and Mark make a formidable team. Recently emerging from the European underground scene, they tie together the darkest aspects that arena has to offer. And this brand new release epitomizes not just the work which Logam's prominent label has to offer, but also what Marius Kirjutaja and Mark Bogdanovas are about to bring to the world of drum & bass.

Going under the pseudonym Mean Teeth, they expose another level of destruction to your speakers and with the help of tastemaker Trilo they're about to prove unstoppable. With only four previous releases under their belt, once before on US torch holder Santoku as well as Bad Taste and Plasma, it's time to fully indulge in the sound they've established from their very first output.

Featuring a nastily foreboding intro, ‘Hatch' leaves you freefalling through revving bass and crushing snare. Its bassline zips and tears through the composition with every layer gradually bolstering the mix. You're made acutely aware that these guys mean business and they're not about to go easy on you. It's the type of techy, no holds barred drum & bass which has made the genre so overpowering in recent months.

Like a science fiction movie, ‘Leviathan' focuses primarily on atmospherics throughout your introduction. Before long, you become enamoured by the crunchiness of its bass riddims, with each pad adding another stepping stone within its configuration. It's lumbering, whilst still swift in the way it throttles your aural senses and you'll find yourself unable to untangle yourself from its grasp.

Already showing themselves to be of a high caliber with their previous two tracks, ‘Escape Pod' follows the same pattern, fluctuating quickly between frequencies and elevating bass notes. Crushing snare adds another sphere, once again returning to those carefully spaced out rifts which are slowly becoming their signatures.

Then lastly, comes ‘Gun Squad'. Featuring Trilo, who's already established himself amongst his competitors, they combine to create an unfathomable force. Trilo brings the pain, demonstrating why he's so revered whilst he merges his production style with Mean Teeth to exorcise a demon of musical proportions. Together, they round up an EP that'll launch their reputation, as well as bring Santoku even further onto the forefront.

Aptly named ‘New Blood' in Japanese, ‘Atarashi Chi' stays true to Santoku's roots, pedestalling the underground, technical sounds which make the genre so revered across electronic music. Santoku are well known for their support of fresh music and this forthcoming release will further solidify that fact. 

Introducing the LP is Space Journey with ‘Remote', moving out on a sonic, sample filled composition and distorted bass rattling in between its segments. Then comes dLo with ‘Crazy', rolling forward on clattering drums and percussion that underpins the mix and adds to its weighty impact. The renowned newcomers Mean Teeth are next, with the climatic, string-lead ‘Shards', crashing into life and dragging you directly into its cascading drops. VLTRN then throw their belting slammer ‘Apocalypse' at your aural senses, featuring the grimy vocals of Hijak MC.

Today is the day! We are finally announcing the winner of the Mayhem & Logam Remix Competition. We were going to announce last week but had discovered that quite a few submissions were accidentally deleted by our email host and wanted to give a little bit more time to allow everyone to re submit if necessary. Unfortunately we did not get all of the deleted submissions back but we listened to all of the ones that we had and made our decision. 

Congratulations to Myselor! Out of all the submissions we listened to we felt this one was the most uniformed and well executed. A stripped down funky roller that offers something new but still maintains the original vibe. Myselor's remix will be forthcoming along with an official remix by ..... you'll see when it drops ;) Myselor will also be recieving a free pair of high quality ear plugs from Ear Peace! Big up man! 

We also wanted to give a shout out to Steve G, Drumliar, and Fakt for their submissions. Each one brought something different to the table but all of them were equally unique.

For five years, Santoku has remained a pinnacle within the world of US drum & bass. They’ve delivered various packages of fresh sonic transatlantic, helping to push the genre on not just American soil, but also across the full global market. And this year marks their 5th anniversary, with three releases to celebrate half a decade committed to giving platforms to both newcomers and more refined talent throughout the 174bpm sound spectrum.

Their next LP will be the first stepping stone towards this five-year commemoration, with its namesake hinting at the full albums content. ‘Jutsu’ continues the theme of Santoku, translated from Japanese into ‘technique’ – alluding to the fact that the entire album is comprised of remixes. Included on the LP are previously released tracks which have become a definitive part of the Santoku discography, as well as four brand new reworks from the likes of Gridlok, Myselor, A-Cray and Logam.

Gridlok needs little introduction, and neither does his groove-ridden retake on Mayhem and label head Logam’s ‘All I Do’. It sets a standard for the rest to follow, including the cutting percussion of Amoss’ remix of Mayhem & Logam’s ‘Centuria’ and the punching bass of A-Cray’s ‘Leviathan’ switch up. The mesmerising tribalism of Quadrant & Iris brought into Logam’s ‘Hypnotic’ acts as a release stand out, alongside Nickbee tackling Mayhem & Logam’s ‘Infinity’ with his longstanding, high quality production engineering. Then comes Eatbrain head honcho Jade’s remix of Logam & Mayhem’s ‘Ourboros’, paying homage to its forbearer but also implementing the chaotic atmospherics and crushing mechanics which makes Jade so infamous. Emerging icon Des McMahon’s track ‘The Hawk’ is given a treatment by Mean Teeth, adding another biting dimension to the original. Logam also adds his twist on McMahon’s style, bringing ‘Delirium’ into unfamiliar territories. And finally, Zero T has his minimalistic yet meticulously fashioned features brought into Hajimari’s ‘Analgesic’ and Myselor delivers Mayhem & Logam’s ‘Orion’ through his lens.

Together they encapsulate the five years Santoku has spent dedicating to their artist’s craftsmanship. And it’s a monumental release, one which sets them up to reach a decade of releases – especially whilst dropping music of this calibre.

Logam’s Atlanta-based Santoku Records return for their thirteenth release which includes a remix and an original track. On SAN013, you’ll find the Gridlok remix of Mayhem & Logam’s “All I Do”, and “Transfixed” by newcomers Mean Teeth. 

Gridlok is a name that is widely known around the drum & bass universe, with a long and established career at the controls. Over the course of the last ten-plus years, he has contributed hits like ‘Moodswings, Bottomfeeder, and Standing Room Only. Here, he goes in on All I Do, taking this Mayhem & Logam head nodder and giving it the classic Gridlok feel. 

The remix draws you immediately into another world, atmospheric synths and sharp electronics fill the screen, before a rolling, bubbling beat drops down from the sky. From the beginning, Gridlok has added in his signature sound and this particular remix ticks all the boxes of a ‘banger’ with thumping beats and a nasty and determined bassline. Touches of melody fill the tune out, giving the track a nice contrasting sound and feel.

Roger Coker was a legend in the Atlanta Drum & Bass scene. A Pioneer of the genre during the 90's and continued to amaze us on the decks up until 2017. We made this song together 4 years ago and I felt it was necessary to embed his influence on the Atlanta scene by making this track a part of our 5 Year Anniversary LP.  Roger was an amazing person. Standing for five years of innovation, the ‘Go Nen’ LP from Santoku represents half a decade spent by its label head crafting its most innovative releases. And alongside another game changing compilation, Logam has offered up fourteen brand new records which will signify why they’ve become such a revered icon within drum & bass, from the UK to the US. The LP also stands as a defining moment within the label’s evolution, drawing from their roster o a hugely diverse list of artists to present the whole colour wheel which has enabled Santoku to garner such a widely acclaimed reputation.

Whether it’s the neuro-infused cuts of Mean Teeth, or the impenetrable production standard of Mayhem and figurehead Logam, their next ‘Go Nen’ sampler highlights a host of musicality which is displayed throughout. The best way for an album of this calibre to open is with the first collaboration between Logam & Mayhem ‘Centuria’, but it moves forward across a twisted skeleton. Amoss takes on ‘Centuria’ and brings it into a darker realm, nodding to the previous releases which have held Santoku in such high regard. Also featuring on the LP are brand new selections from the likes of Uttersounds, who offers up the pounding riddim ‘Size Up’. Sequential’s ‘Mass Transfer’ alludes to the contemporary digital era drum & bass has found itself developing in whilst Symplex & Camel jump on board for the understated yet melodic ‘Twilight’. Celebrated American newcomer ‘Des McMahon also makes an appearance with a switch up of ‘Dopamine’, presenting a carefully packaged VIP and Kodin adds his tearaway track ‘Valetudinarian’. Todd Buchler, Pish Posh & HammerZz add their sonic delivery ‘Fuego’, which plays to its namesake with hard-hitting drum patterns and crafted hooks. Then for the last exclusive, you’re introduced to Logam & Roger’s ‘Emrys’, the perfect manifestation of what Logam inherited with Santoku’s legacy.

With the success of their collaborative project VLTRN, Dead Zodiac and Profane have decided to put their individual efforts into solo careers but that doesn't mean their unbreakable relationship will take a backseat. Their forthcoming 'Entrapment' EP on Santoku Records is a perfect example of this, bringing the artists together for a set of brand new records which already raises the bar for their changing directions. Hailing from Australia, they've brought a variety of different influences into their music, which can be seen throughout the EP's every offering. They also feature Russian drum & bass stalwart Tobax, who brings the countries almost impossibly high production standards into his remix of 'Apocalypse', a collaboration Dead Zodiac and Profane previously created as VLTRN. He adds a welcome twist alongside MC Hijak's grimy vocals, with the track having rose to notoriety as part of Santoku's 'Atarashi Chi' LP.

Already being established and respected DJs within their own right, the energy demonstrated across every track comes as no surprise. The award-winning pair bring the heat for opening track 'Entrapment'. With sweeping atmospherics and jutting percussion, it begins to weave a trap before you're fully submerged within it's heaving bassline, which flips and dips between every crumbling break.

'Time Chase' follows similar chaotic patterns, with a freefalling drop that moves you straight into the chaos. The track is fast paced, exploding head first into steadily grating drum layers and quickly flipping beats. Coming next is 'Demon', which cleverly lends itself to its name through an ethereal introduction which suddenly explodes on impact, kicking harder and harder on top of its moodily driving bassline. The Tobax remix then contorts the structure of 'Apocalypse' and gives it the blood which surges through all of Tobax's intimidating, heavyweight cuts, presenting the final explosion given a platform by the EP.

As a package, it exemplifies the darker side of Santoku's formula, highlighting their stellar discography which has a high-level of engineering and features the type of music which causes absolute dancefloor devastation. And this is what makes the imprint so revered from Europe to the US. It encompasses a full spectrum of sound, bringing forward the very best of their scene's talent.

With an added collaboration from Interzeptor, a brand new outfit from Vienna, it’s one of the imprint’s most versatile, European deliveries to date.

You’re then introduced to ‘Fiend (VIP)’, which exhumes a welcome twist on the already snapping original, moving you into deeper waters whilst also rerouting the mix and pushing you through segments of antiquated, neuro infused breakdowns.

And in particular, it’s a section of the drum & bass world which sees more of the darkly lit, technical vibes which are prevalent throughout this year’s festival circuit, despite the sweeping stages which may have in the past played more commercial sounds. Over the years, newcomer artists like Santoku’s Living Plastic are making their presence more widely felt, with the Poland-based producer becoming a part of the US label’s growing roster. Having already released on labels such as Technique and Viper, his forthcoming release on Santoku will further push him into the spotlight. However it’ll show a totally different side to his production character, moving away from the liquid underpinnings he explores throughout his back catalogue and instead goes down a deeper route. Minimal, yet still aggressive, this single is one out of two which will be coming from Living Plastic and Santoku over the coming months.

’Hypa’ and ‘Fiks’ do damage without over stating their intentions and with the help of Santoku, Living Plastic is looking to continue to explore his sound. ‘Hypa’ brings artist Straight into the fray for a rolling, underground record filled with stabs of sonic distortion and the layers of bass heavy chaos. Straight and Living Plastic make welcome collaborators as they push forward with the type of energy which flows without restraint through club speakers but also gradually builds as it becomes more and more over powering. It’s a track which gradually creeps up, before taking hold and not allowing you to break free from its grasps. On the reverse, ‘Fiks’ moves forward with the same precision, cutting deep with every segment as it gradually envelops you in its technicality. With its pitched vocal samples and melodies which sit beneath the mix, it presents a mixture of dark and light. This perfect balance of elements shows why there’s an excitement growing around Living Plastic. It’s why he’s sure to become an important part of the scene; first throughout the US market and then across the wider scope which labels like Santoku have at their disposal.

Desmond McMahon returns for the second time to a record label who have firmly solidified themselves within both the US and European drum & bass market, having already bridged the gap across the Atlantic. His next EP on Santoku is an expert follow on from the release which provided a pedestal for the young producer, one who’s paved his way through the scene’s biggest stages in the US, the type which tastemakers look to when they consider the underground success of dance music’s pivotal sub genre. The finely-honed sounds of Des have often brought out the freshest turns in DJ sets and mixing styles, providing an intricate look into the younger members of drum & bass and the talent which they’re currently bringing through the ranks.

The four-track package from Des is a look into the versatility of the upcoming producer - from ‘No Need to Speak’ through to ‘Ghost’, he grapples with his heavy layering and carefully laid out musicality in a way that demonstrates just how illustrious he is as an artist. This time he’s taken a more dance floor approach, opposed to the cut throat style of his ‘Delirium’ EP, whilst still pushing his signature throughout every meticulous segment he builds, one on top of the next.

‘No Need to Speak’ draws you straight into the fray with drums which administer swift punches and a bassline that crackles throughout the mix. Next up ‘Bad Habits’ is just as dynamic, creating a driving rhythm which is punctuated by the records swift hooks that jump out from you between the composition. Following on is ‘Bulletproof’ which nods to its namesake and it’s impenetrable in its make up. And finally you’re brought into the wavering movements of ‘Ghost’, the perfect end to his ‘No need to Speak’ EP and giving a final snapshot into his diversity as a producer.

Santoku highlight how they have an eye for picking up blossoming newcomers - and Des is leading the charge. Although a go-to from the beginning, Santoku are making themselves widely felt without the need to submit to a more commercial appeal.

It set the pair apart from many producers amongst their ranks and debuted a stellar package which pushed Mean Teeth into the agenda. 

Logam, Santoku’s label head and a veteran producer, has selected several artists to have their take on Mean Teeth’s creation. The ‘Leviathan Remixes’ features Nickbee, Vowel, Paradigitz, A-Cray and an exclusive rework of ‘Leviathan’ from Mean Teeth themselves. It covers the reach which Santoku have at their fingertips, something keenly demonstrated throughout their forthcoming reworks EP. 

NickBee’s version of ‘Leviathan’ has thumping bass rhythms and is domineering through its searing drums. Vowel comes next, taking ‘Leviathan’ through his own motions, alongside clashing percussive patches. Paradigitz, the nineteen-year-old beatsmith, has his turn on ‘Leviathan’ and it’s just as chaotic, yet through its own weighty pads. Then A-Cray delivers ‘Leviathan’ by twisting it into his own mold, one expertly defined through each jaunty segment. The remastered version of ‘Leviathan’ takes you down a path which is somehow even more immersive than the original and Mean Teeth makes an explosive appearance through putting ‘Leviathan’ against a more contemporary set up. New life is blown into the ‘Leviathan’ EP, almost three years on from its original inception.
