An escar, in geological terms, is a long linear ridge in the superficial drift, including various pieces of gravel of considerable size, whose arrangement took place probably under water over which icebergs floated. 

The parallel is easy to draw with Escar’s self-titled debut EP, since every track is a musical piece of considerable size, all pertaining to the same strata of linear quality and fantastic sound design, all sharing an underwater realm feel as well as a distinctly melodic (yet technoid & breaky) organic nature. Angular, erratic blocks of sound are often deposited on the escar, and they beautifully contrast with the euphonic nature of the compositions. 

Another example of Danish producer Natal Zaks’ handsome aliases, Escar’s musical vocabulary is topical and elaborate and his new sound, as usual, evocative of states of mind unlived before. Escar playfully binds a sense of the sublime with concrete, contemporary techno, making this release a stunner in every way.

There are a few bands that will always make you remember where you were when you first listened to them. The Peruvian masked duo from Lima named Dengue Dengue Dengue is definitely one of those bands. The year was 2012 and Rafael Pereira and Felipe Salmon had just released their debut album ‘La Alianza Profana’, where their unique take on cumbia with dub and techno elements was presented to the world via stunning tracks like Simiolo, and complemented by a vibrant, colorful and psychedelic aesthetic on their videos and live visuals. We were instantly hooked. 

From then on, we knew we had to have Dengue Dengue Dengue on the Enchufada catalog. Fast-forward to the present and the boys have turned in an incredible six-track EP called ‘Serpiente Dorada’, which sees their unique and unmistakable sound develop and grow even further. While the relentless and hypnotic cumbia is still at the core of their sound – as the title-track Serpiente Dorada proudly displays – one can also hear as zouk bass slowly enters the melting pot of influences on Banana or Bugutu, while still managing to sound like no one else. The Jamaican sounds of dub, reggae and dancehall weigh heavily over the whole EP, but it’s in Booom that they make themselves more noticeable, while Rama sees the Peruvian duo leave their comfort zone and experiment with 120BPM beats. Finally, Senen Pani provides the perfect EP closer in the form of a dreamy, rhythmically-charged psychedelic lullaby. 

Perfectly translating the band’s approach to club music, ‘Serpiente Dorada’ is an infectious and colorful mixture of global sounds, as genres are used as a starting point on their ongoing search for the perfect hybrid beat, where the total is more than the sum of its parts.

For all the black gold lovers, Baile Musik proudly presents very first vinyl series that will be in stores in summer 2014. This massive V.A. features four tracks by Fresh Juice members Crocodile Soup, Jessica Diaz and Monika Ross including a guest appearance by the Dutch beauty Lilith.
While Jessica Diaz and Crocodile Soup represent their dark side with some heavy bass, Lilith ́s track builds a bridge to Monika Ross, showing the opposite with a very jazzy tune for the happy situations in life. Crocodile ́s „L ́homme mystere“ is all about the grooving bassline that steps through rainy territory in an atmosphere of an Italian gangster movie that finds its climax in a mysterious phone call.
Miss Diaz ́s „Tres“ keeps on that flavor charged with some typical dub sounds and vocal whispers here and there that keep the experience going on. If you listen close you will hear all the little noisy details snap- ping in your eardrums from all directions. While those two are four to the floor groove based tracks, Lilith and her „mani Padme“ comes along with some super cool drums paired with a sad mood in an experimental ambience of arabic voices and chants; a pure masterpiece if you like endless rhythm within a story of love and faith.
„Madame Magic“, produced by Fresh Juice member Monika Ross, completes this release with its tech-house beat enriched with melodic parts that make you feel like you are sitting in a jazz-café. You can hear the people talking in the atmosphere while the groove carries you through the story in a very smooth manner.
All in all this vinyl is a great and round package packed with quality music for the early and later hours. It will definitely make people move on the floor with nothing but groovy minimal and tech-house.

House is back. Of course this music has not really been away, but for a couple of years the genre has clearly added some creativity and joy of play. You can convince yourself by listening to Vera Heindel from Frankurt/Main, who has become famous as a producer, after being DJ in numerous important European clubs for several years. After releasing on the labels Oslo and Cyclical Tracks, her first solo EP now appears on Cargo Edition. 

"People's House" reflects the elegance and the funk of House Music in its purest form, but without denying the influences of the current Club Music. "My little Disco" shows up with a similar affection. With a few concisely placed chords and samples, Vera puts a breeze of disco on the House Dancefloor -- very restrained and without any cheesiness, but with a small wink. 

With the "Shakeyourbootymix" the disco reminiscence of "My Little Disco" becomes even more apparent and it makes the track perfect for building up an encouraging party at the same time. Finally, Rhadoo forms "My little Disco" from house to minimal. The young man from Bucharest is part of the successful Rumanian trio Arpiar - together with Raresh and Petre "Pedro" Inspirescu. With gracefully built sounds and an insistent bassline he accentuates selected elements of the original in a new way. The house vibe remains latently noticeable.

Sitting down and writing about our latest EP was a fun but challenging exercise, we scratched our heads and this may sound bad but we couldn’t think of deep, dark interesting stories on how we made these tracks or what they represent. These jams are simply a combination of previous and random happy accidents that have come together and saying anything else would be a lie. This however does not mean that the thinking behind them is completely random, the three cuts that we selected for this EP we feel are a journey of experimentation and a culmination of unexpected sounds and feelings. A word that we found best described the EP was ‘Irony’.

The most ironic thing we feel is that the main basis of these tracks were born on the stage during our live performances and they have now been reworked and moulded into a record. We however feel that this brings an interesting element to the EP that yes it is recorded and set, but you are not quite sure where the next sound or feeling will come from. A hi hat? A kick? It is pure ‘organised randomness’...

I suppose we should talk about some of the music and try and explain what we mean! We start with ‘Pe dos’, which in plain English means inside out and it was a track that we had started back in 2011. We were flicking through our ‘curiosity closets’ one day and found it, we played around with it and heard a kick drum that was not arranged correctly in the sequence due to a random manipulation of the sequencer. Our first thought was to just change it, but then we decided to wait..... when all the other sounds of the tracks came together we threw the kick back in and BAM, Even the acapella voice of the track was screaming. Therefore it was a simple for us to name this track as we worked on it in a completely back to front and “Inside Out” way!

The other two tracks on the EP were born in a similar way, reborn again out of the dark corners of our packed ‘curiosity closet’. The track ‘Noococ’ is perhaps the track with the most irony on the EP. Having been made originally after an amazing gig at Amnesia in Ibiza in 2012, we were in a recording frame of mind which gave the song its basis but we would still play it within our live shows. ‘Noococ’ has been therefore from recorded track, to live and now back to recorded in a quite weird but groovy journey. The final track, ‘Trandafirit’ has no such meaning. It is again a raw track stemming our live show some time ago that inspired us to recreate and retouch. Again through experiments and lots of head banging on walls, we recreated and accomplished a track that stayed true to the original writing of it but also embodied change which in a way is symbolic of the development of our project over the years.

Now, we did warn you at the beginning of this wordy mess that it has been ‘organised randomness’ that has brought us to create these tracks and this EP, but one thing we are sure about is that we knew we would love to and be very honoured is to be able to put out this collection of cuts via Vakant. A label that has been close to our hearts and heads for a long time. We hope you enjoy the EP and that the music can help translate some of the shit above.

Our first vinyl of the year landed Pherox. “Gabrielle“ also featured two excellent and wicked remixes from Beroshima and Rhadoo.

With furious sounds gushing over edgy percussion, sensing danger behind every corner, “Gabrielle” takes off on a straight groove, vibrating the floor. 
The Beroshima remix with its huge opening trembles under the hefty beat, driving the track onward, all the way to the limit. Killer!!

In his remix, Rhadoo opts for a pure, unadorned beat, bringing the track straight to its intensely striking point!
