For the third year now we played at Firespace at Fusion Festival but for the first time in the night accompanying fireplayers for their show.

This has been so special and gave us the chance to experiment with different sounds and finally we could include some psybient tunes into our set.

Saphear | Firespace | Fusion Festival 2023

We played the opening spot on the alternative floor at the second edition of Tempest at @suedpol-hamburg. 
Besides the psytrance and psytechno floor, we were aiming to open the third floor with a sound that captures psy-elements and varies in flavours, styles, tempi and genres, as to roll up the red carpet for @Triptune who overtook the DJ booth with a smashing drum 'n' bass set followed by a genius psydub set of @its-surreal.
As for this, we had the chance to slowly evolve our journey from psydub and ended with drum 'n' bass tunes. 
Emphasising @chrystal-chris's selection and storytelling, @sawatzki has the gift to improvise to the occurring sounds with his electric violin and diverse effects. This combination amplifies the psychedelic experience the mix aims to create.

The atmosphere in the tent in this cold November night with minus degrees was something special with an open audience following our musical footsteps. Thank you for listening & dancing and especially your euphoria <3

Saphear *live at Tempest | Südpol Hamburg | November 2023

Hi fans,

here is our DJ-Violin-mix from Sunday evening at the one and only Firespace at Fusion Festival.

We started our musical journey with 76 bpm and ended up with 131 bpm. 
Our interpretation of the mix: It's like climbing the stairs to an aspiring mountain. You slowly get faster to reach the top where you finally have a breathtaking wonderful view of your surrounding and feel the whole world inside of you - and that makes you happy ;)

Coincidentally, we played and mixed a lot of tracks by artists who also played at Fusion this year, for example tracks from @oh_why, @jaschahagen, @arutani, @polygonia, @vril_01, @Kiasmos and @Max-Cooper. It can be seen as a short summary of the musical landscape and variety at Fusion, even if there is much more to discover - we know ;)

Die Frage nach einer Anekdote zur Nacht oder zu ihrem künstlerischem Schaffen ergab dann doch eine Antwort, die uns, die wir aus der Anekdote gerne einen einleitenden Text machen wollten, kurz sprachlos machte und dabei alles verband. Es sagt so viel über die beiden, dass sie eben so antworten und ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit und Öffentlichkeit auch eine größere Verantwortung beimessen. 

Reso: Habt ihr eine Anekdote für mich? Gerne zur Party oder eurem künstlerischen Schaffen.

"Ja, haben wir:
Wie haben sich Sawatzki und Chrystal Chris von Saphear eigentlich kennengerlernt? Es war einmal im Backstage des Mensch Meiers, genauer gesagt war es Mitte Februar 2017. [...] Fast drei Jahre später bei der Sea Watch & Friends Solitour-Party im @menschmeier_berlin, erinnerten sie sich an diese Begegnung. 

Sie spielten dieses konzeptionelle Set basierend auf Chrystal Chris theoretischen Auseinandersetzungen mit Flucht und Vertreibung während ihrer Studienzeiten und dem intensiven Austausch mit Menschen, die Flucht erlebt haben. Diese Erfahrungen gehen nicht nur sie selbst an, sondern uns ALLE, denn alles ist miteinander verbunden und so hängt auch unser politisches, wirtschaftliches und gesellschaftliches System mit den Gründen von Flucht und Vertreibung zusammen. Deswegen ist es wichtig, sich nicht von aktuellen gesellschaftlichen Diskussionen über Fluchtthemen abzuwenden, so wie Europa die Grenzen dicht machen will, um nicht mehr Geflüchtete aufzunehmen. Dass es Sea-Watch und andere Initiativen gibt, die durch Seenotrettung diese Grenzen nicht akzeptieren, ist so was von mutig und überaus wichtig. Lasst uns daran arbeiten, in einer Gesellschaft zu leben, die ihre Augen und Ohren nicht verschließt und die von Mitgefühl gesteuert wird und nicht von Geld, Macht und Gier."

From 17th to 19th April should have been our very last, completely exaggerated and boundlessly farewell party at our favorite Bucht - which unfortunately could not take place because of that damn virus. 

As a virtual compensation, we decided to at least host a streaming from our Bucht. So we put together an exquisite lineup and played on our beloved bridge for more than 21 hours.

Verbunden fühlen wir uns mit vielen Clubs und Kollektiven - unsere Berliner Wohnzimmer sind sicherlich die Bucht und das Mensch Meier. Als Veranstalter unserer Konzertreihe “Kolibri Sinfonie” sind wir außerdem auch Residents im Klunkerkranich.

Als mitgestaltendes Mitglied des Kollektivs “Kybele” hat Chrissy sich viel mit der Sichtbarkeit von female identified Artists befasst, und Raphael hat mit seinem Kollektiv “Schiffbruch” viele legendäre Partys ausgerichtet.

Seit Beginn des Lockdowns und der pandemiebedingten Clubschließung sind wir beide   sehr aktiv in den Strukturen von United We Stream. Neben ein paar Auftritten in Streams befreundeter Kollektive haben wir dadurch zumindest eher mehr als weniger zu tun gehabt.

Wir freuen uns daher sehr, nun auch musikalisch zu unserem Projekt United We Stream etwas beitragen zu können!

After years of traveling and changing residencies, @Chrystal-Chris arrived in Berlin, where she met @Sawatzki.
Their shared passion for deep, complex electronic music led to their first performance on a pristine lake – and so, Saphear was born.

Sawatzki, a trained jazz violinist with a classical background, improvises live to Chrystal Chris' carefully curated DJ sets. This synergy creates performances that are truly one-of-a-kind.
Their soundscape blends Ambient, Electronica, Deep House, UK Bass & Breaks, and neo-classical elements, offering a captivating musical journey.
