We have some exciting news… Oskar Knickelbein is officially joining ANIMA as our first resident announcement. As part of our commitment to being a unique influence on the local and extended music scene, it became increasingly important for ANIMA to find ambassadors to represent our vision and carry the sound. During our constant search it was evident that DJs who have a spiritual connection to the music, reflected our event's values and resonated with us the most. Oskar was one of these individuals. Not only a talented producer but a growing force on the decks…the journey with music began very early for him. Starting with piano and ableton sessions - it eventually evolved into a fully-developed studio production. 

“My name is Oskar Knickelbein and I produce electronic music.

Over the years, as music became more and more meaningful  to me, I began seeking ways to understand it in a deeper way. Whether it's piano or synthesizer, it's just a medium to express yourself or something else. Writing music with this spirit will give the listener or dancer a memory, something to remember and think of at another time in their life.

Join us, as we kick off a brand new series: TENSIØN Invites! 
In this exciting new format, we extend invitations to both up-and-coming talents and our DJ friends within the scene.

With TENSIØN Invites, we want to set well selected artists in the spotlight, creating space for the sound they wanna share. 

Every artist will be part of a podcast series and also of a smaller TENSIØN club-event, playing at maintime. Beside that, we also ask the artist a few questions in advance, to paint a better picture of the artists story and passion.

Jun.Choi, a dynamic DJ hailing from Berlin and Dresden. Jun.Choi shares a musical kinship with local artists, blending sounds that resonate with the vibrant energy of the cities. With a passion for introducing diverse tastes and selections, Jun.Choi invites everyone to indulge in the pleasure of music and self-expression, irrespective of gender, inclination, or any other values.

1. Tell us about your musical identity. When did you start Djing and what was your motivation to do it?

I’ve been playing djing since 2019 before Covid pandemic. I always loved to do clubbing, enjoying electronic music with funky, strong beats. However during pandemic the lockdown cut out my amusement not only me but also friends who love to dance. I and my friends started to make our own fun and started to play music by myself. When I played music people danced with me, got happy it gave me a huge thrills. People can just be drunk on music and fall out the moment without any worries. To give them big pleasure I would play my selections. I did and will do give a big fun and unforgettable moment to people who wants to enjoy and express themselves. 


2. What are your influences and preferred styles to play and why?

I would love to play minor key sound tracks. Those sounds make the vibe hypnotic even it has very strong or fast beats. As I mentioned I love to go clubbing and every time I go to various clubs it always gives me different influences. Every city has different vibes. When I visit other cities I always try to go to their local clubs and feel the vibes. I can see and feel the people what they want and how they enjoy. 


3. How do you assess the development of the current Techno-Scene?

There are so many different types of techno genres and each has their own strong sides. Plus many techno djs are coming out to scene and mixed with others. This huge mix develops another huge scene. Whenever I see mixtures I’m so happy and surprise that all types of techno genres can be so delightful and exciting.


4. Do you have any upcoming projects, gigs, or something similar you want to talk about?

Currently I’m based in Berlin and Dresden and sharing musical desires with local artists. However I’m still trying to get many gigs as much as I can in different various cities. I would love to show my taste and selections to who wants to have pleasure and express themselves regardless of gender, tendency or any other values.


5. Is there something else you want to share with the community?

I’m so happy to show me to your community and appreciate for the inviting. I wish I can show me more in the future and share the love.

ТENSIØN Invites: Jun.Choi

This EP mark the second release on Modular Archive, sub label of Modular Side Music. I put together, some of my most spaced out and mellower productions, characterised by smooth tones, “empty” grooves, and deep extra terrestrial atmospheres (hence the title). It’s a Sun but it does not shine.

Yax is a techno DJ from Adelaide, Australia drawing influence from the likes of artists such as DVS1, Jeff Mills, and Setaoc Mass. His style is continuously evolving throughout the years, but he maintains a focus on deep, groovy, hypnotic, and minimal techno, as he takes inspiration from the 90s and early 00s era, while still adding a modern twist to his sets. 

Whilst maintaining a presence in the underground techno scene in Adelaide, Yax also curates a weekly podcast series called Yax Invites, which began in 2021 with the aim of showcasing talent from around the world with an emphasis on extended techno mixes.
