Vi que allí se hacían algunas cosas,
Figuras grababan en las rocas,

Me preguntaron que de dónde venía.
Contesté que sí, que no tenía planes determinados, 
Contesté que no, que de allí en adelante.

Tomé entonces un trozo de piedra que encontré en un río
Y empecé a trabajar con ella, 
Empecé a pulirla,
De ella hice una parte de mi propia vida. 
Pero esto es demasiado largo.
Corté unos árboles para navegar, 
Buscaba peces,
Buscaba diferentes cosas,

Hasta que me empecé a aburrir nuevamente. 
Las tempestades aburren,
Los truenos, los relámpagos, 
Yo soy el Individuo.
Bien. Me puse a pensar un poco,
Preguntas estúpidas se me venían a la cabeza. 
Falsos problemas.
Entonces empecé a vagar por unos bosques.
Llegué a un árbol y a otro árbol;
Llegué a una fuente,
A una fosa en que se veían algunas ratas: 
Aquí vengo yo, dije entonces, 
¿Habéis visto por aquí una tribu, 
Un pueblo salvaje que hace fuego? 
De este modo me desplacé hacia el oeste 
Acompañado por otros seres, 
O más bien solo.
Para ver hay que creer, me decían, 
Yo soy el Individuo.
Formas veía en la obscuridad, 
Nubes tal vez,
Tal vez veía nubes, veía relámpagos,
A todo esto habían pasado ya varios días, 
Yo me sentía morir;
Inventé unas máquinas,
Construí relojes,
Armas, vehículos,
Yo soy el Individuo.
Apenas tenía tiempo para enterrar a mis muertos,
Apenas tenía tiempo para sembrar,

Años más tarde concebí unas cosas, 
Unas formas,
Crucé las fronteras
y permanecí fijo en una especie de nicho, 
En una barca que navegó cuarenta días, 
Cuarenta noches,

A practicar, a practicar idiomas,

Bien.
Mejor es tal vez que vuelva a ese valle,
A esa roca que me sirvió de hogar,

Pero no: la vida no tiene sentido.


Soliloquio del individuo / Nicanor Parra

“Pupila Dímelo Tú” reúne dos remixes a canciones del repertorio popular: “Guitarra Dímelo Tú” de Atahualpa Yupanqui, y “Pupila de águila” de Violeta Parra, en la hermosa subversión del Ensamble Chancho A Cuerda.

Camanchaca nos cuenta:
Desde nuestros inicios, solemos decir que hacemos “música electrónica autóctona”, porque más allá de los distintos y riquísimos ritmos y texturas que nos da nuestro continente, siempre quisimos lograr un sonido que diera tanta cuenta de la enorme cultura de nuestro mestizaje como de la actualidad sonora que nos recorre cotidianamente.

Por eso, en este EP quisimos volver a pensar la música propia en un sentido más arraigado a lo que se escuchaba en nuestras casas de chicos, y que hoy volvemos a repetir en rituales domingueros; pero esta vez, atrapados en cajas de ritmos y reverberaciones espaciales. Para terminar de conseguir ese sonido que queríamos, Tropikore dio un increíble aporte con su mezcla y masterización, y por ello le estamos muy agradecidos.

De modo que este EP es, en parte, un homenaje a esa zona de nuestra memoria afectiva. Pero también quisimos dedicarle estas canciones a la Diega, la gata que nos acompaña desde que tocábamos con una vieja consola de videojuegos y un charango; razón por la cual le pedimos a Soledad Tordini que inmortalizara a nuestra dieguita en el hermoso retrato que está en la portada.
Así las cosas, un poco de folklore, otro poco de bajos, y la Diega; en eso andamos.

Atahualpa Yupanqui - Guitarra Dímelo Tú (Camanchaca Remix)

AYA Records, imprint of the pioneering Latin American label, ZZK Records, transports listeners to Andean Amazonia with its first release, Respira, by Mateo Kingman. 

Kingman, 24, is a singer-songwriter of Ecuadorian Amazonian music that fuses traditional Latin American sounds with hip-hop, rock, and pop. Respira, his debut album, is an energy overload that sings of biodiversity, sketching natural landscapes of magic and water colors. It is infused with sounds guiding the listener from the jungle and to high mountains, between the tangle of trees and the meandering sound of the wind on the moors. 

Kingman's childhood was spent in Macas, a small town in the Amazon, where he was exposed to the cultural richness of the Shuar community and Amazonian mythologies. There his feet grew calloused on mountain grass, there he dove in the Amazonian rivers searching for ancient sounds of water devils. He walked narrow, muddy roads, hearing the cries of the wild, of the Amazonian nymphs, of the dense green. In this environment, Kingman began experimenting with the guitar, drums, and traditional instruments. He began exploring the universal nature of music, which ties the finite and small human condition, full of passions hard to understand, with the cosmic, the chaotic, and the infinite. 

After a brief interlude pursuing semi-professional sports (100 meter hurdles), Kingman moved to Quito in 2012 and launched his music career. Just a few short years later, he finds himself at the forefront of the Latin American music scene emerging out of Ecuador, both as a soloist and a member of the band EVHA. 

Respira exemplifies this sound, fusing electronic with organic and acoustic in order to create a musical oxymoron: chaotic harmony. Inspired by artists such as Simón Díaz, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Violeta Parra, Juaneco y Su Combo, Control Machete, Bomba Estereo, Sidestepper and Café Tacvba, the album combines samples and synthesizers, with organic sounds he records himself in rivers, forests, and mountains. Kingman's lyrics connect the concrete jungle with the past of four million years of human life historically tied to the natural world. His soundscapes are full of the spiritual energy of all that is good, of what makes us dance to scare away the demons. His fiery voice constantly stabs at the melodies, spilling out the verses with rap and timbres of traditional songs. 

With the swagger of Calle 13 and the groove of Manu Chao, Mateo Kingman is ready to show you his world. Respira is out on August 12 on AYA Records, and will be available everywhere.

There’s something brewing in the Ecuadorian underground.  In 2015 ZZK Records introduced the world to the sensorial sound of Nicola Cruz, shortly after in 2016, Mateo Kingman.  This year has seen numerous projects emerging from Ecuador’s effervescent and vibrant scene, none more exciting than EVHA.   
 
It isn’t the past, it’s now, and it’s magical. El Viejo Hombre de los Andes, EVHA (The Old Man of the Andes), is a band formed by four creators who put heart and soul into everything they do: combining ritual dance rhythms, faraway plateau choirs and sacred songs with bold contemporary beats.
 
Recovering the ancestral protests of traditional Ecuadorian music (“Uiuí”), urgent calls for nature's protection (“Todo su cuerpo brilla”), the repetitive striking of the hoe in the field and the endless green of the forest. But also combining textures of laughter, deep rivers and majestical lakes, Ecuador’s magic captured in sound.  
 
We find refreshing and delicate electronic glitches transitioning into hip hop-influenced voices from mountain top ceremonies among fast looped marimba arpeggios, contrasting beats and touches of ambient.  This ethno-electronic experiment is full of flavors from various regions; sanjuanito, pasillo and bomba sample flirtations with ethereal beats. 
 
The record El Viejo Hombre de los Andes has a clear connecting thread, absorbing forms and colors from native Ecuadorian music and strengthening them into a tight conceptual construction with captivating and current sounds.
