このスペシャルミックスアルバムは、ユキマツと彼が信頼を置くプロデューサーたちによって奏でられる一つの物語である。すべての音の形と色合いを駆使して、音の無限性が探索された12のトラックは、ユキマツによって構成され、プロデューサー一人一人のメッセージが見事に汲み取られた壮大なストーリー、Midnight is Comin’となった。

アルバムは orhythmo のサウンドエクスペリメント Nagel から始まり、Ryo Murakami のゆっくりと奏でられる弦の音色 Reminiscence、そして Sapphire Slows のリズミカルなスローヘイズ Hinotori に続くのは、DJ Nobuの指数関数的に脈打つ音色 Yakou Gai。 KEIHIN の DMT のようなバーチャル瞑想空間を感じさせる Exhale からのYPY の張り詰めた空気感漂う MS、そして City の穏やかな 9K へと進む。COMPUMA の Flowmotion (DUB) によってワームホールへ吸い込まれ、リバーブが降り注ぐ Coni の Ängelsbäcksstrand に誘導される。そしてGabber Modus Operandi の Kisah（インドネシア語で物語）によって覚醒され、SPINNUTSの超越した曲譜 Zweimal schlafen atmosphäreに繋がる。そして、アルバム最後は Albino Sound による宇宙サウンド Celestial Sphereで締めくくられる。

Versatility does not even come close to describing how the humble Japanese  ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U is considered to be one of the best DJs in the world by many of his peers. From his debut at DJ Nobu’s FUTURE TERROR event to performing 3 years consecutively at Berlin Atonal Festival, Yukimatsu’s sets have to be heard for you to understand.
 
In this special mix album, Yukimatsu gathers round his producer friends to build vessels of the story structure. Threading the pages together, interweaved by friendship and sine waves, he has crafted a masterful presentation from their individual messages. Pulling and stretching all sonic shapes and shades while exploring the farthest reaches of sound, the result is a frequency soup of twelve outstanding tracks that when sequenced together, become part of a greater, grander story: Midnight is Comin’.
 
From the sound art experimentations of orhythmo – Nagel and wide yawning strings in Ryo Murakami – Reminiscence to the rhythmic slo-mo haze of Sapphire Slows – Hinotori and the exponentially pulsing colours from DJ Nobu - Yakou Gai. The DMT-like spacious virtual meditation hall of KEIHIN – Exhale follows the uneasy footsteps of YPY – MS  to the intermissioning chapter of City – 9K. Fall into the wormhole of COMPUMA –Flowmotion (IN DUB) and be transported to the reverb-drenched, intimate experience of Coni – Ängelsbäcksstrand, the primal invocations of Gabber Modus Operandi – Kisah (which also means story in Bahasa Indonesian) to the transcendent notes of SPINNUTS - Zweimal schlafen atmosphäre. The soaring universe of Albino Sound – Celestial Sphere wraps up the album with crystalline notes.

I have been a fan of Derek Baron’s music for only a small amount of time. But I appreciate how he and his cohorts blend technical talent and technical knowledge with abstract ideas and abstract approaches. Cop Tears is made up of Derek Baron, Cameron Kapoor, and Andrew Wilhite.  This album is a four-track recording of the group playing one of my favorite John Cage pieces, Thirteen Harmonies.   It was originally published in a tiny edition of 40 CDrs by Derek’s own Reading Group label.  I thought it was beautiful enough to see the light of day again.  I even got the John Cage Trust to sign off on the release!  As regal as bored as humble as confused.

The live recording from our fourth Both Sides Now residency for emerging artists which saw eight women (a mixture of sound artists, visual artists, music producers and DJs)create new music and art, taking inspiration from the People’s History Museum’s new exhibition Represent! Voices 100 Years On, with a focus on femme-ism and resisting through the body. Directed by composer, producer and conceptual artist Fatima Al Qadiri, developed in collaboration with curator and researcher Amal Khalaf. 

This residency was part of Both Sides Now, our new ambitious three-year initiative to support and sustain gender equality across the landscape of music.

Both Sides Now: Fatima Al Qadiri

This 11-minute audio track from Timothy Deconynck in Belgium was sent to us just yesterday, and while it’s not perfect, it’s creative and odd and might even be crossing into the realm of fetish, which means it’s right up our alley (and hopefully yours). 

His idea is to do a monthly episode of “skate ambient” where he pulls from cult videos from the ’90s like Shackle Me Not and Hokus Pokus, early 2000’s classics like Menikmati, and even some stuff from today. He takes conversational snippets and skate sounds from these videos and mixes them with background ambient tracks and white noise that all washes over you. 

Fast slides, pops, small wheels rolling over cobbled asphalt and split sidewalk cement. All together, it makes a mash-up of sleep-inducing layers, creating an atmosphere of audio that’s as confusing as much as it is comforting.

If you’re a fan of Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works albums, or Brian Eno’s Music For Airports, you will definitely find familiarity and warmth in this track.

The title of the first episode is “Chaos”, and while it may be a bit too chaotic to be straight-up Skate ASMR or something you could easily fall asleep to, it’s a great start to this audio journey.

In an audio cut up session Asli Serbest mixes sound from celebrity homes to ASMR, from oriental loops to synthetically generated ambiences, together with various voices commenting on the instability and porosity of current domestic space. In a time of crisis, it has turned into a site of hysterical contradictions, between intimacy and internet, generosity and exploitation, community and violence.
