Summer 2013 will see the release of Behind, a brand new album by youAND:THEMACHINES aka Martin Müller - one half of youANDme - on the Ornaments imprint. As youANDME the pair have seen plenty of success with releases on labels like Cocoon, Rekids and Deeplabs. Their last mix-cd was hailed as one of the best of the year by DE:BUG and between them they have officially remixed influential artists like Moodymann, Seth Troxler, Radio Slave or Lawrence.

As is usually the case for this vinyl-loving outfit, the Behind album has a limited to 333 copies hand-painted cover edition with unique artwork and a stamped number, and features vocal collaborations with seminal artists like Robert Owens, Brothers' Vibe, Delhia de France, Bajka and Keter Darker as well as instrumental contributions from Olga Kholodnaia who plays strings, Martin Kohlstedt who plays Rhodes and e-piano and solina strings from The Analog Roland Orchestra man, Michal Matlak.

Behind is Martin's long player debut on Ornaments and is an album that brings together his wide array of influences -- dub techno, ambient, Detroit techno, house, but also encompasses plenty of analogue hardware, field recordings and hidden messages. The aim when writing the album was to use no samples and instead craft every sound himself.

Some of the equipment used through the album to lend it such a unique sonic signature includes Waldorf Microwave, Moog Voyager, Roland TR909, 808, 707, Alpha Juno and some MFB drumboxes amongst others. "The aim was to take these old instruments and combine them with modern techniques from 2013," says Martin. "I wanted to make music that doesn't loose the old spirit of yesteryear."

The results make for an album that doesn't follow trends but instead comes from deep inside the mind of the producer who made it. Inspired and influenced by more than 15 years of listening to electronic music, it is a truly cross genre work.

From the grainy dubwise ambiance of opener "Entrance" to the deep and lush techno of "Perception" and on through more intense and sinewy cuts like "Domain Specific" and the blissful, beatless, string laced excursion that is this is "Desire", this is a record with lots of narrative; an album that really takes you somewhere. plenty of extra character also comes from the respective collaborators who each have their own distinctive voices, making Behind a truly captivating work of art.

Returning to Exploited for another bite of the cherry, Italian duo gizA djs are back.
‘Something Cool’ blends elements of indie dance and nu disco in its loose, warm feel, with a dash of Italo disco attitude to boot. ‘80s synth pulses set the tone over live percussion and subtle bass, before a sultry male vocal adds more retro feel to the proceedings. Classic disco hi-hats drop in as the vocal switches from English to seductive Italian and big synth chords filter into focus. A sweet arpeggiated lead line thrusts into play as a Daft Punk-esque electric bassline funks away below. An unexpectedly wonky breakdown builds tension, setting us up for a colourful finale where the key elements morph and modulate in a beautiful fusion.

‘Rogue One’ is more of a brooding, atmospheric house affair, but one that comes with dashes of funk. Tribal percussion intersperses a turgid bass groove as mystical trumpet loops tease in and out of the mix. A discofied guitar lick bolsters an infectious, mysterious plucked melody, and imperceptibly the track builds intensity to a crescendo with eerie pads, heady reverbs, ride cymbals, urgent vocal chants and judicious use of FX.

Taken from Dilla's 2001 BBE Music debut solo album Welcome 2 Detroit, 'Big Booty Express' gets the remix treatment from German duo Âme, Parisian Pépé Bradock and London's Coda Deep.

Alongside the OG version these new productions add up to a six track exploration of Dilla's tribute to Detroit's melding of the Motor City's Black music heritage with Kraftwerk's experimental Euroelectro.

Contributing two mixes to the EP, Parisian producer Pépé Bradock AKA Julien Auger first forays into music were after learning guitar as a 14 year old and playing with various Jazz- Funk bands. At this time he also started DJing with Hip-Hop bands and turning his hand to producing their tracks.

As the 90s progressed he also discovered Techno and House music. His musical influences range from Jazz to Dub Reggae and he has remixed for Blaze, Cassius and Alex Gopher among others.

Also providing a remix of Big Booty Express is the German production duo of Frank Wiedemann and Kristian Beyer who work together under the name of Âme. After first meeting in Kristian's record shop in their home town of Karlsruhe and bonding over a shared love of Chicago House and Detroit Techno the pair started working together and producing records for Sonar Kollektiv in 2003.

The final two remixes on the Big Booty Express EP and only included on the digital package come from the Londoner Coda Deep. Influenced by avant-garde Electronica, Nu Wave and African Tribal sounds, he is a DJ and producer playing deep and melodic Tech and Techno and will also be known to music fans for his 2019 BBE release 'The Running of the Bulls'.

This EP of remixes sits very well alongside the catalogue of J Dilla releases on BBE Music and adds to the rich heritage of innovative beat making and music production that we can associate with Dilla and those he worked with.

Feeling extremely excited and proud for giving continuity to KEENE and Kaleta's release'Ayessi', this time in collaboration with the internationally renowned music producer and composer Henrik Schwarz. It also includes an outstanding remix from one of our favourite artists 'Philou Louzolo', responsible for bridging the gap between afro diaspora sounds and House and Techno.

Henrik Schwarz came up with two versions in wonderfully colourful fashion, sunny vibes and a triumphant feel that completely envelops this production, with shimmering disco hi-hats bringing the rhythm urgency and subtle strings and blips filtering away in the bedrock of the composition. A buzzing synth bores a tunnel through the centre of the groove while perfectly blending with Kaleta's vocals. 

Philou Louzolo showed his prolific production skills in all its glory with each element carefully positioned to keep things energetic, laying the foundation of a dancefloor bomb. It features an array of warm arpeggios that adds bright colours to the mix, with driving afro percussion pushing the track along with a gentle sort of power. Kaleta's vocals and blasts from sprightful trumpets were efficiently used bringing tension to the mix.

Vleks' and Adan Aradillas' side project Los Dvtsuns gets all of the attention with this release.
On Sabor a Prisión and Prófugo, the two Mexican producers expose their world of rock-infused Indie Dance. Strong basslines mark the pace of the EP, accompanied by Spanish vocals and distorted guitars.
While Sabor a Prisión explores sexiness with saturated vocals that compare the taste of a kiss to jail; Prófugo comes as a hypnotic track for the late hours, taking us to unknown dimensions.
