Lost Civilization

A very simple and short part of a trio sonata for Musette de cour and Vielle à roue that i am currently writing. As i don't have the musette or vielle in my instrument arsenal yet, i had to play the violin instead.

Written by Johann Hieronymus Kapsberger (c.1580-1651), this Canarios  melody is a movement from his "Libro quarto d’intavolatura di Chitarrone" (1640). It is (very) freely interpreted and arranged by me. I also play all the instruments which consists of baroque guitar, baroque violin, cembalo, pandeiro, double bass, jew's harp and indian bansuri flute.

My arrangement of a lovely tune from the renaissance. It is a celebration of springtime. On this, I play violin and baroque guitar. Like almost everything else I've done, this is recorded in my living room :)

As I Me Walked

My own re-written arrangement of Matteis wonderful Giga, Al Genio Turchesco. For me, it captures the busy nightlife of 1660-1670's London, where taverns were filled with upbeat music and dance and people from all social classes were finding a happy and needed escape from personal worries and city-wide traumas like the plague and the Great Fire. On this one, I play violin, baroque guitar, cembalo, chamber organ and percussion.

Giga, Al Genio Turchesco - Nicola Matteis

A collection of different themes tied together. Basically trying different ideas without asserting a general theme over the composition as a whole. Quite shoddy mixing as my old recording rig simply cannot deal with huge, full-size orchestrations of this scale, so I was lucky I was able to get anything out of it at all to be honest. I will try to take the stems to another rig and mix it properly when time allows, as I think it deserves proper auditive presentation.
