Fossey M: This story shows the desperation of people to believe in something, to find something ("...the air in front of our faces. It looked clear, but maybe it wasn't...this could change everything." 4.14) as well as the awkwardness in the pathways to get there (the exercises of breathing in no and yes, 40 women running around the auditorium. 3.09). The repetition of the word "romance" and background percussion made this piece comical and the background of the two characters (combined as if the narrator actually knew about Teresa's past) made the story dynamic.

Olivia W: I like that there's little to no explanation before this piece. We just sort of 'appear' in this class where romance is being discussed. This piece was simple but broached lots of big ideas. I wondered about the character's use of 'animals' to explore intimacy between humans. First, looking at how a dog feels (twice as much, she says as humans) and then later, through the exercises, feeling like animals. I also found this piece had some great humor- especially the description of "the forty women" doing excercises for love and running around the spaces and the narrator's repetition of 'romance'. I thought it was a surreal (but funny) situation.

Jeremy: I really like the delivery, the subject material, and the writing style of this one, though whatever deeper meaning this piece has is somewhat lost to me. The music and sounds, as always, are fantastic and help the story along. Also, why are they in this school? Is it supposed to represent society's expectations about romance? I wish that I understood this piece a little better.

James B- I enjoyed how Miranda didn’t take herself too seriously in the beginning of the story when it comes to valuing the advice of the romance educator, and this teacher’s cheesy dialogue, which she later uses to create a powerful build up. This story’s build is interestingly recorded over melancholy music, which doesn’t scream an escalation of emotion but gently leads the audience to open up and listen closely to her increasingly excited dialogue.

Nate L:  This was my least favorite of her pieces. She comes across a bit self-absorbed which made the story very hard to follow towards the end, and I often felt completely lost as to what was happening and why during her interactions with that woman who said nothing (though the bit in the beginning in calss which had multiple voices popping in and out flowed well). Oh yeah, the class. Not a huge fan. A room full of women discussing romance? Haven't heard that before.

Alexandra- I love how July uses breath to put these perfect pauses into her stories. I am not sure if other people found this piece as funny as I thought it was. I felt rather alone as I listened to school of romance.

This piece was beautiful. At first I was expecting an eat, pray, love thing to be happening but I love how universal Miranda is in her pieces and this one was no exception. The strength here really is the writing and Miranda is talented on writing about micro-actions (sitting on floor instead of chair) as an impetuous for interaction and emotion.

A phenominal mix on BBC 6.

Khruangbin are the Texas based three-piece that make psychedelic, acid jazz infused Thai funk music. Oh yes. Comprised of Laura Lee, Mark Speer and Donald Johnson, the trio have supported Bonobo across his USA tour and even had a track included in his Late Night Tales mix last year.LNT's artist label Night Time Stories subsequently signed them up, with single 'A Calf Born In Winter' released 19th May and an album in the works. Providing the soundtrack to your dreams and entering i-D's mid-week wind down session for their first ever mix, these are the psychedelic sounds of Khruangbin. Drift off.

In this we pull on Acid Jazz, Gospel, Brazilian Funk and Psych, Thai & Japanese Pop/Rock, "farm rock", Dub, Funk, and R&B to hopefully create a mix that is varied in style yet cohesive in feel.
