The Missing Hour is an energetic piece from start to finish, depicting the feeling of “chasing after time”. Many people experience the challenging time changes of jet lag from a trip, or the “spring forward” of Daylight Savings Time. Your students could enjoy discussing some of the science of Daylight Savings Time with this work.
The Missing Hour begins with a mysterious melody asking the question, “where did that hour go?!” A repeated ostinato pattern offers a great opportunity to teach developing students how to work with naturals.
A middle section encourages students to develop their more lyrical playing. Then the piece ends with a compelling recap of the main theme. Enjoy the search for the missing hour!
