Sarah Farina is a DJ quickly invading all corners of Berlins bassdriven clubs. With influences ranging from Mark Pritchard, Timbaland, Boards Of Canada and J Dilla, she's quickly forged a reputation throughout Europes underground bass scene by filling her sets and mixes with an unpredictable blend of ukg, jungle, juke, hip hop and a hefty dose of bass itself. Strongly supported by the ‘Sick Girls’ and ‘WeBoogie’ on her first professional steps, she found her way into residencies at some of Berlins best Undergroundmusic Venues. Beeing a part of the ‘Through My Speakers’ collective since 2012 Sarah is now being requested for gigs all over Europe and proceeds spreading the love that can be found between her basslines. Sarah has already supported some of the most respected of her bass music contemporaries, both locally and abroad, warming the decks for Kode9 and Cooly G for a Hyperdub label night in Berlin, DJ’d for Lazer Sword's album release party and played alongside Lunice, DJ Rashad and Scratcha DVA in Berlin. Her gig at Amsterdam's Trouw for 2012 Applesap Festival afterparty alongside UK men-of-the-moment, Disclosure, turned the heads of all who attended.

Sarah Farina | TXL Berlin ARTE Concert 2023

🪩 About the EP release 🪩
“Stay Soft” is the result of Berlin based DJ and producer, Sarah Farina, seeking the identity of a voice she loved on one of her favourite songs (Freak Like Me by DJ Deeon), only to discover the name wasn’t listed. Not on the version she was playing, or any of the 27+ remixes released in the past 28 years.

And so Farina, an artist on a mission to spread “Rainbow Bass”, a self-coined term for the colourful, uplifting musical energy she emanates with her diverse selections, was determined to find the artist that has never been credited. Sarah’s hope to find and work with the beautiful voice unintentionally became the story of another forgotten, overlooked Black femme vocalist.

@TishBailey is a Chicago singer, songwriter & rapper, who’s voice & lyrics have been streamed 75+ million times since the release of the 1996 Dance Mania club anthem Freak Like Me by DJ Deeon (Rest in Power):

“Though few know my name or have seen my face, I know I've brought a lil spicy joy to countless people. That's my life's purpose so despite any downside, I humbly appreciate the opportunity to reach the hearts of many.”

Unfortunately, it’s been an unscalable mountain to edit the credit (ironic how fun this sounds!) so this new transatlantic, intergenerational collaborative EP offers space for Tish Bailey’s voice to be heard... and her name to be seen.

“Stay Soft” is Sarah & Tish’s first project together consisting of three tracks across the 130-155 bpm spectrum. This diverse EP presents unexpected musical & lyrical range to evoke joy in any listener at home & on the dance floor.

Bio:
Sarah Farina is an international DJ, music producer, curator and activist. She hosts and curates the interdisciplinary Berlin event series Emergent Bass with her friends, which focuses on the historical awareness of cultural contexts
of music and celebrates and uplifts the Afro-diasporic influences in underground club culture.

She’s innovative, she’s skilful, and she’s the smiling antithesis of genre cliques and sour scene elitists and sprinkles positivity over the darkest bass.
What you hear is all you need to know. And what you’ll hear from Sarah Farina’s sets and music productions are seamlessly blended bass-heavy frequencies and futuristic beats with fearless forays through the hardcore
continuum and beyond.

It’s inclusive, forward-thinking and unrestrained. It’s a genre-rejecting style that she’s named Rainbow Bass.
She’s vocal about the issues of current club culture and runs the project „Transmission“ with researcher Dr. Kerstin Meißner, which aims to make the political relevance and history of international sound, club and rave culture audible and visible.
