Great Stuff proudly presents volume five of it’s “To The Underground” series. The series features solely exclusive tracks. Hand picked with only the dance floor in mind. Tracks that will work crowds and elevate dj sets. 

To The Underground Vol.5 begins with Saccao & Vanilla Ace’s “Librium “- a marching tech house beast, that features an wobbling bassline, which was constructed to take dance floors apart. The smooth vocal snippets and the snappy groove programming are the icing on the cake.

Cutting edge sounds morph around crisp percussions, while the uplifting chord progressions provide the right amount of energy. You will instantly fall in love with Cosme Martin & Christian Vila’s Spanish summer atmosphere, compressed within their “Manumba” composition. 

The eye-catcher of Vidaloca & Piem’s “Oxygen” is it’s constantly evolving groove and swelling sub bass that support the freaked-out melody patterns in the most stylish way. Pitched vocals and extremely tight snare drums seal the deal.

Rutger is closing out this fine collection of engaging electronic music. His “The Method” is all about the cosmic and recondite melody. It leads the way through a jungle of spaced-out pads and moody break-downs.

Discovering the soul of trumpet took us to the beautiful sound journey. How different the sound could be when you play it live is amazing feeling. Roma Moss took that challenge following his tradition to put classy groovy full of percussion soundtrack behind pulsing melody of the live instrument. Easy, stylish and inspiring. The idea for the remix came immediately after Trumpet Flame concept. Hidden Vibes asked for the support the super Chicago style house music champion Demarkus Lewis who created so much loved atmosphere of classy house music and the way it should be in it's clear form. 100%% match with original mix. When asked by my good friends at Iboga if i wanted to make a compilation aiming at the slower, more downbeat side of the music spectrum, of course I immediately said yes.
So much great downbeat music has emerged over the past 2-3 years, and the scene has been growing rapidly, with many sub-genres seeing the light of day.
My thoughts about the selection of tracks was that they should be deep, moody, trippy, well produced ,and layered with tribalistic rhythm patterns. And a sexy bassline wouldn't hurt either!
So I started to get in contact with friends and some of my favourite producers in the genre, and slowly but surely, a story was starting to unfold...a sonic horizon, filled with music dear to my heart. Enjoy!

On July 14th, 150 blessed folks came through and shared some laughs, sunshine, good vibes, and a little 1-2 step at a beautiful park in downtown Toronto, for the first ever Afro Haus (https://soundcloud.com/afrohaus) Park Party! 

This was my sonic contribution to the event, alongside 7 other epic local afro DJs! From afrobeats to kuduro to gqom to afrohouse, this set was a proper tour around the continent, with a few left turns into Brazil as well! It was inspired by the infamous mid-summer, sun-soaked, vibe-filled park hangs that all of us in Toronto wait for ALL YEAR! 

It makes for the perfect soundtrack to any summer day... complete with an afrohouse remix of "Thong Song" ;) Enjoy!

A sunny midsummer's mix to pick you up and carry you through these turbulent times as your most vibrant, unapologetic, fabulous, sun-fueled Leo-esque self! It’s full of my favourite pan-African booty-shaking bangers that were mainstays in my house during quarantine to keep us moving & uplifted (shout out to the quaranteam who inspired me!)

I assembled this mix in a particular order to showcase the shared pan-African musical & rhythmic roots of soca, arfropop, and dancehall that ping-pong back and forth across the Atlantic between countries like Nigeria, Trinidad, Canada,  Jamaica, and America. Originally from a tiny town in Michigan, Sarah moved to Toronto in 2012 to complete an MA in Ethnomusicology at the University of Toronto after finishing a BA in Music in Michigan. She became a professional drummer/percussionist at age 15, and somehow her love of punk, ska, and metal evolved into a deep study of Western classical & avant-garde music. During her BA, she fell in love with West African drumming, and traveled all over Ghana while studying traditional percussion & dance at the University of Ghana in 2011.

After moving to Toronto, Sarah began studying and performing percussion from Bali, Java, Brazil, and India. She also performed for many years in indie bands such as O Frontera, The Northen Empties, John Orpheus, Oxford Blue, Ghost Caravan, and Catch Fiyah. With these bands, she's toured and played across the US & Canada, as well as festivals like NXNE, MixTO, and CMW. Music from these groups has had placements in Kim's Convenience, virgins!, and an Off White x Jimmy Choo Paris Fashion Week campaign.

In 2017, Sarah started throwing an event series called Haus Orpheus with bandmate & business partner John Orpheus. Haus Orpheus featured pan-African artists, dancers, DJs, poets, musicians, and vendors in an art gallery in downtown Toronto. Sarah had been on the aux cable nonstop at these events, so under the encouragement of her band mates & community members, Sarah started DJing.

As a DJ, Sarah finally had an outlet to share her love & library of popular, underground, and electronic African music that she had been collecting since she lived in Ghana. In 2018, Sarah founded the all-African music party Afro Haus, a now infamous & vibrant community in downtown Toronto of local afro DJs, musicians, dancers, visual artists, performance artists, and producers. 

Sarah has also co-produced the event series Urban Jungle, Haus Orpheus, and Wickxd Womxn.
