Screapadal is my own composition. The music is based on the poem 'Screapadal' by the Scottish poet Sorley MacLean. Screapadal is a deserted township on the East side of the Island of Raasay - an Inner Hebridean Island on West coast of Scotland. 

Screapadal was composed with the place and the poem in mind and looks to folk music for inspiration. Using multiphonics from my recent research compiling new multiphonic  charts for the bass clarinet - I wanted to write a piece of music that would be accessible not all, especially audiences that do not normally listen to or understand contemporary techniques.

The piece can be performed as a solo bass clarinet piece or I have permission to use the full narration within the music in live concert setting. 

The full narrated version of Screapadal will be presented in a new concert programme (Horizons) of music and poetry from the British Isles with the bassoonist Laurence Perkins.
