Slovenian Sare Havlicek returns to Nang with the first single of his eagerly awaited fourth album,"Softmachine". EFO or  "Everybody Freak Out" to go by its full title announces Sare's return with a loud disco bang.  Its full on jam packed with funky swing, brash disco swagger and catchy lead lines.
 
Remixes come from artists all over the planet.  First up we are off to Glasgow for a slow-funker groover from The Korvids (one part James Grant from Love and Money and one part Gordy Goudie from Simple Minds and Echo and Bunnymen). James adds layers of a new sly vocal and brings the Scottish funk beats to the fore.
 
Next we take our first trip to Russia with Kim And Buran's Space Disco mix. It's a vocoder, russo-disco epic full of smooth beats and robo vocals. Sare himself is next up with his 12" style Extended remix. Giving us a chance to hear that sweet instrumentation and build up in all its glory. Serbia based Tonbe is next who pairs up with Sare for the 4 to the floor, solid percussive, no-nonsense late club hard disco mix.
 
Taking things down a notch or two Budapest-Moscow alliance Kontinents chip in their squelchy, analog groove heavy rework before Sare goes Dub on us with his down and dirty low end frequency special. Its one more trip to Russia to close out the slow groove and synth wash floating keys of the Kim and Buran Space Café version.

Attempt to make STVC sing with a female voice, although the frozen phrase was spoken by a male. Some jitter applied in the second half, making the voice a bit creaky.

The next foursome on Tilly Jam. Once again, label-honcho Till von Sein is pushing his variously tempered, tenderly to vigorously crafted House-approaches through the sequencer. Resulting in:

“Feva” – the opener. True to its name, this cut is vitalizing Disco-fever within every detail, be it the funked up bass grounding, the pulse quickening percussions, the claps that are up for a good spank or the string glaze that certainly will disinhibit every floor that’s topped by a mirror ball.

Quick vowel switch and there we are, led into deeper realms by A2. “Fave” is built upon a yearningly keyed in piano-miniature, dense shakers, a groove laden bass and a profound string embrace. Elements that seem to aim for one thing in particular: to crank up the floor thermostat a notch or two.

The B-side is heating things up even further with “Chronic” and therefore this EP’s peaktime recommendation. It is carried out by the most evident bounce within this bunch of tunes, energised by lifted and lowered synth-chords, thickened by a highly effective groove that’s calling upon the rather deeply pumping DJ heart.

And after the closing track is through, it should be obvious which side to take in a so called ‘he said – she said’. This very “She Said” is laid out as a Soul emitting, guitar licks indulging, rimshot-pattern decorated jam, that should cover everyone in a warm, loving glow who is not yet jaded into emotional surdity.

I used to be Sare Havlicek... now I'm Softmachine.

So, the time of the renaming is at hand.  I have gone by "deathy" for decades, but after being told repeatedly that the name didn't quite seem to fit me, and agreeing that it really didn't seem to fit with the style of music I was making any more, I have decided to change my name to "DJ DefE D."  It's not a huge change in the way it rolls off the tongue, but it does require some new profiles on the social media sites.  For right now, I'm going to concentrate on just Soundcloud and Facebook, but I'll expand that.

To help get some attention, as part of the renaming, I will be releasing a new mashup or remix weekly for the year of 2019, all free downloads of course... it won't be high art, but it'll be fun and there'll be a whole lotta music to listen to.

I hope you'll come over and keep listening to me under my new name!
