Creosote (Larrea tridentata) in bloom,
Fills the air with a sweet perfume.
Raven (Corvus corax) knows the land

Mohave Ground Squirrel (Xerospermophilus mohavensis), so rare,
in the sand with a cautious stare.
Mojave Desert Tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) crawls slow,
where the hot winds blow. 
Desert mallow (Sphaeralcea ambigua) blooms bright,
reflecting starlight at night.

Kit Fox (Vulpes macrotis) cunning grace,
Slips in and out of a sacred place.
Bobcat (Lynx rufus) prowls terrain,
the Mojave loves the rain 
Western Whiptail (Aspidoscelis tigris) zips fast,
Desert Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma platyrhinos) iconoclast.
Horned Lark (Eremophila alpestris) sings at dawn,
Loggerhead Shrike (Lanius ludovicianus), always strong. 
Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus) drums on stone,
Rock Wren (Salpinctes obsoletus) calls it home.
Desert Tarantula (Aphonopelma chalcodes) hunts at night,
Long-nosed Leopard Lizard (Gambelia wislizenii), a glorious sight. 
In the Mojave there’s many fine things, 
the desert sweetly sings
From the mountain peak to the endless sky,

Hundreds of species, thrive in this land,
Insects and plants, Mojave’s grand plan.
