Margaret Glaspy - Consequences (guitar arrangement) [Sascha Muhr]

Borrowed my old man's Fender PM-3 to possible do some more stuff with a steel-string acoustic (since I never really got around getting one myself). Been working on two arrangements lately (Olivia Rodrigos 'drivers licene' and another Sven Helbig piece). I did this short improvisational piece while diddling around with a slide. 

Granted I went way too heavy on the reverb with one of the tracks, I thought the textures/soundscapes themselves turned out quite nice.

Improvisation_19: Ambient/experimental textures on the Fender PM-3

Still got the Fender PM-3 on loan and wanted to do a simplistic 2-instrument arrangement of Olivia Rodrigos 'drivers licence' since I've been toying with the idea of doing my next album in an acoustic setting, with maybe just acoustic guitars and string quartet/octet. This is a bit rough around the edges, particularly with all the ritardando going on. Influences for this was John Scofields covers of pop songs

Besides the PM-3 I've used my Ibanez JSM-10 going into the Bluguitar Amp1 for the lead guitar on the boosted clean channel. I've used the "Hall" mode on the Mooer A7 on a low mix and decay setting for the reverb on the Ibanez and used a bit of reverb in Ableton Live for the reverb on the acoustic guitar. 

While I do love warbling sound of the semi-acoustic I'm not sure another approach would be more appropriate to emulate Olivias voice. The transients come across quite harsh and maybe some volume swells on the Vigier or the Telecaster would have been a bit softer sounding.

Olivia Rodrigo - Drivers Licence (Sascha Muhr guitar cover)

While finishing up other projects I'm kind of toying with the idea of making Umbra centered around acoustic instruments (or emulations thereof). 

This idea came about by combining a really simple riff with a pretty standard progression and a quartal harmony I tried writing on top of. That quartal harmony is kind of lost in the middle of all the sounds but picked up by the strings (from a Ableton Live Pack). 

I've used a borrowed Fender PM-3 on this one, mic'd with a Sennheiser E906

Jam on acoustic guitar with string quartet

When warming up for recording the greensleeves cover I've uploaded two weeks ago I did this little improvisation over the main melody of 'For The Love Of God' by Steve Vai. 

I used the Ibanez JEM77FP into the boosted clean channel of the Bluguitar Amp1 into the Blubox (set on Black 1x12 I think) and used a Mooer A7 for the reverb.

Improvisation_20: ambient take on the melody from Steve Vai's 'For The Love Of God' with the JEM77FP

Took the fretless out for the first time in ages since I wanted to see if I can use it for a cover/arrangement I've been thinking about. When warming up I recorded this short bit. 

This guitar was my first ever electric guitar that came as part of a starter guitar pack from Stagg. It originally had a thick deep see through blue colour that me and my dad stripped down to the base layer. Also he helped me taking out the frets later on and fill the gaps up with resin (thank you dad:)). At some point I installed a 1979 DiMarzio X2N that I got off ebay -- actually the oldest piece of guitar related stuff I own. 

I'm using the Bluguitar Amp1 here along with the Fairfield Circuitry "Shallow Water" and the Mooer A7 for the rever, as well as some reverb in Ableton Live. 

I'm really fed up with the hiss coming from the mixer. Before I start recording my next release I really need to take a look at some good mid-size consoles. Any recommendations?

Improvisation_21: Short jangly two-chord loop using my X2N-loaded fretless guitar

So quite a while ago I've worked out like half of this piano etude by György Ligeti as a guitar arrangement. The first four bars are relatively easy (apart from the stretches). After that it becomes more demanding with polyrhythms and later on there's a need for leaving out certain parts.

Let me know if you want more of the Etude and I'll try and do different sections of the etude as well (arranged most the etude).

György Ligeti - Arc en ciel (excerpt)[guitar arrangement]

Fitting to the whole COVID-19 situation going on right now. Heard this song for the first time the other day and instantly wanted to make an arrangement for fretless bass and electric guitar. 

For the soundscape I've been inspired by the Belladonna album by Daniel Lanois (especiall having the bass panned left and a doubled and shifted copy panned right - as in 'The deadly nightshade'). 

I've used the piezo pickup of the Ibanez SRF-700 directly into the mixer for the bass. This is routed into the convolution reverb pro with very lush reverb setting. 

The guitar is a Fender American Professional Pine Telecaster into the Bluguitar Amp1 on the boosted clean channel into the Bluguitar Blubox. 

Trackpants are my trusty corona pants.

Jackson C. Frank - I Want To Be Alone [guitar & fretless bass cover]

So... I've been trying out the B-Standard tuning on the JSM-10 and I've really been enjoying it. Together with the Bluguitar AMP1 settings I've been using the lower string tension really allows for a very organic phrasing. Definitely using this sound on the record. 

I've also used the Vigier Excalibur (Shawn Lane Master) with the same amp settings to counter the boominess and woody-ness of the JSM-10.

The harmonic basis for the whole thing is a chordal idea I had while reading about in the book "A Theory of Harmony" by ERnst Levy. Some of the melody lines are based on a short fragment/theme I want to use with the chords

However I've decided to put a bit more time into playing acoustic guitar again and started with a piece I've learned quite a long time ago when I still went to school. Especially left-hand-technique is still lacking but oh my is it fun to delve into that timbre again. Defenitely gonna use it more in the future.

Sylvius Leopold Weiss - Fantasie [Sascha Muhr]

Been toying around with this simple way of preparing the guitar. It's basically  emulating the principle of a Koto and I've already done this a couple of times I think. However I want to get more familiar with this technique to hopefully employ this in some more serious stuff than just a couple of improvisations. 

Structurally this is nothing extraordinary - just a simple loop I started when looking for a sound on the Bluguitar Amp1 to go with the technique. 

I've got the (spring) reverb on the amp on and it's running on the boosted vintage channel with low to moderate gain. However the Master is turned up to 7-ish so which might have been a bit too much, but I do love how well you can control the gain with the volume knobs on the guitar that way. Also it makes the jsm-10 sound super dynamic. 

Signal chain: Ibanez JSM-10 - Bluguitar Amp1 (with Boss DD-20 in the fx-loop for looping) with some more spaceous reverb in ableton live (convolution reverb pro) into the blubox on the silver 1x10 setting directly into the mixer.

The video at hand is once again a bit of an exploration into searching souds on my new pedal board configuration and trying out some heavier/heftier sounds. 

All the distorted guitars are either the Vigier Excalibur Shawn Lane signature or my Fender Pine Telecaster with '63 gray bottoms in the bridge into the beautiful noise's "When The Sun Explodes" into the BLuguitar Amp1's clean channel. First time I've tried utilizing the different IR speaker models on the BLugutiar Blubox and I'm particularly happy with how the Tele-Sound on the "Stack 1980" turned out. Gnarly sounds right there.

Improvisation_14: Ambience with fretless bass

Based on the piano sheet music for Clemens Christian Poetzsch's Redux version of the song I did a guitar arrangement. 

I went with a double-tapping approach and Drop-A as tuning the get the lower registers as well. I used the Ibanez JSM-10 into the Bluguitar Amp1's clean channel into the BLuguitar Blubox, set on the Stack 1980. I used the Mooer A7 for reverb and the Boss DD-20 for delay, both in the FX-Loop of the Amp1

To add a bit more texture and colour I recorded three tracks of semi-improv/melody on my Vigier with slide.

Alright. To the video at hand: I recently got the Mooer A7 hall/reverb/ambience pedal. Totally loving it so far, especially the standard hall-mode and crush-mode (I think I used both on the melody improvisation). This is a little improvisation using the hall mode.

I used my Shawn Lange Master signature on this one. Goes in to the Bluguitar Amp1, into the th Blubox (set on "Stack 1980"). The reverb and delay (for the loop) is in the fx loop of the amp. Together with the "Shallow Water" by fairfield circuitry.

Anyway, back to the video at hand. I haven't been posting a lot lately which is due to the score to a small indie-video game I'm working on right now. It's an entry to the itch.io game-off and we had a month to start and finish a game. Besides work, the game and whatever else one has to do I've sadly neglected my social media outlets. While warming up to record some stuff for the game yesterday I made did this little improvisation that I thought would be fitting to the latest improvs.

I've been using the Vigier Shawn Lane Excalibur on this one, going into the 'When the sun explodes' by Beautiful Noise Effects into the BLuguitar Amp1 which goes into the Bluguitar Blubox which then goes straight to the mixer. 

I've got a Mooer A7 in the FX Loop, as well as a 'Shallow Water' by Fairfield Circuitry (prominently featured on the loop) and the Boss DD-20 for the loop

Improvisation_17: Building lydian textures with the Vigier Excalibur on the Bluguitar Amp1

So a couple of weeks ago I've set up my little guitar corner for a demo of the Mooer A7 reverb pedal. After having set up everything I warmed up a bit and recorded a short little something before noticing that the light from outside is getting to dark to properly film something (my phones camera isn't the best with in dark conditions or with artificial lights as I'm sure you have noticed on other videos). 

Hopefully by the end of the year I'll have the demo/review online.
