Straight out of summer with a powerful, playful and provocative new single for the clubs, Catz 'n Dogz link up with their good friend Megane Mercury with two raw and empowering tracks: 'Toma / Kiki' 

A gifted and highly experimental vocalist, who was shouted by Vogue Spain as a 'Hot Talent For 2021', Megane has been making a name for himself with his electronic, pop and hip-hop fusions over the last few years from his native Madrid. Rapping and singing in Latin, his work often subverts Spanish and pop culture, traditions and songs, reclaiming them from his own perspective as a black and queer artist. Both these tracks are no exception.. 

'Toma' riffs on Conchi Cortes' 1999 pop hit that every Spanish kid growing up in the 90s would know, but gives things a much darker twist. Flipping the rhythmical onomatopoeic sounds with a rich, tribal vocal, he empowers the listener and explains how their lifestyle cannot be questioned or compromised under any terms. 

'Kiki' follows suit in both its rhythmical vocal use and its subversive twist. Taking the Spanish sound for the cockerel's dawn chorus while nodding in the direction of Daddy Yankee's 'Gasolina', 'Kiki' once again fires up references that give a little slice of familiarity in an otherwise exciting and fresh territory that's gritty, direct and guaranteed to whip up dancefloors this season. 

Expect more subversive messages from Catz 'n Dogz in the future as they continue to work with inspiring queer artists, creating a platform where vital messages can be made in ways that make us all unite and dance together.

Having galloped onto our dancefloors back in 2020 with his sure-shot ‘Lone Ranger’ EP, then followed up by ‘Meltin’’ our minds with his pure, high grade funk in ’21…. Renato Cohen returns to Pets Recordings with a fresh, high octane offering for the summer in his ’Benzine’ EP. 
The title track ignites the EP with its seismic bass and oscillating acid line. As the temperature rises, simmering nicely, Renato adds a hefty splash of cosmic seasoning and another twist of acid on ‘Frito’. 
Sufficiently toasted, we inhale the final Benzine fumes and embark on an hallucinogenic trip through cascading keys and echoing drums on closing track, ‘Wake Up’. 
More fuel to his musical fire, the Benzine EP completes a hot and spicy trio of Pets releases from the Brazilian maestro.

The retro rave continues on the flip with 'On and On', a stripped back lo-fi jacking house cut. It's pressured synths, rough-cut beats and cascading sirens make for a sweet festival-bound secret weapon.

Diego has totally made a name for himself in the last couple of years, releasing on labels such as Apollonia’s own “Apollonia”, “Berg Audio” and “Beste Modus” to name a few, playing all over the most promising underground European circuits. He also took part at the first Tamango showcase at Club der Visionnaire (Berlin) last May. This eighth episode features several unkwon records from the early millennium and clearly demonstrates Diego’s attitude as refined music selector.

An old friend returns to Pets. Three years after his ‘Polyphonic’ EP, Catz ‘n Dogz bring the legend that is Mathias Kaden back on the label and the results speak for themselves…
Following his recent barnstormers on Avotre and Rekids, both ‘Square’ and ‘Distant Horizon’ deliver in that unhurried, cosmic journey-like way Kaden has made his signature over the years: gentle layering, subtle moment, palpable atmospheres but the drive and underbelly of a bulldozer. 
‘Square’ kicks off the show with an eight-minute adventure into deep, warm undulating acid. Heavy subs, fluid drums and a persistent spoken vocal texture, this one wraps you up like a cloak. ‘Distant Horizon’, meanwhile, whips that cloak off so quickly it will send you spinning deeper and deeper into the celestial rabbit hole. A 10-minute Mathias epic, it warms up with a progressive rolling feel for a good few minutes before we’re suddenly derailed into a trippy, hazy brew of weird bass bubbles and some rather outlandish spoken word. Poetry in high grade technoid motion. 
And the motion doesn’t stop there… Ever ones to get involved, Catz ‘n Dogz get their paws on ‘Distant Horizon’ and give it their own gritty, grainy, trippy twist. Two parts tribal, one part bass, all parts peak time, this doesn’t just stare out at the horizon but flies you right over it. 
Two beautiful originals, one killer remix. Be there or be ‘Square’…

Rydim is a mystery. Well, partly… One thing that isn’t a mystery is the high level of acid house authenticity at play here. Dark, heads-down strobe light seduction with the focus squared firmly on the soul of the dance. 

‘FOMO’ lives up to its name thanks to some ominous reese craft. Purring savagely throughout the track, leaving space for the sinewy 303s to dance wildly, it sucks you right in and spits you back out into the lasers at speed. Miss it, miss out. 

Don’t miss either Johannes Albert’s remix or the Bass Tool either; the former maintains the acid but re-shapes the bass into a warmer vibe while the latter strips everything back to that growing, heated bassline. Both will leave everyone in the house happy… 

Finally we have ‘Fairlight’. A homage to the mother of all samplers? That’s another mystery to solve. But we do know it’s another beauty from Ridym; naked beats and bass with crucial pads woven in for optimum breath-takes, every rush any dancer has ever felt since the 80s is saluted and celebrated right here. 10 Years Of Pets Recordings part 2

BAQA once again! One of the leading proponents of the epic Mexican wave of cosmic disco Theus Mago returns to Pets with another collection of hair-raising, feather-ruffling, soul-spinning jams. Time for some 'Consolidation'.

'Shame' takes the lead. A thundering slug with a slo-mo arpeggio, like so many of Theus' most incisive cuts, the secret of the groove is in the layering as more and more elements slap into the mix creating momentum that borders on oblivion. Meanwhile on the remix, DC Salas boosts us into peaktime with weaves of percussion and sinister twists in all the right places.

'Don Camione' follows. A bouncing technoid treat where percussion and alien bleeps ricochet with mischief, it's a one way ticket to the naughtiest hours of the night, pranged out with the creepiest 8-bit flavours. Last but definitely not least, we wash the madness down with a generous dose of 'Peyote'. Pure Salvador Dali techno with every round-about and upside down twist you'd expect from Theus, and indeed Pets, this consolidates a lot of feels right here. Rave Dave would be proud.
