<p>This collection of label boss Sasha Carassi&#8217;s tracks boasts remastered gems from the past and brand-new tracks ready to be placed in many a Techno arsenal.The first half of this compilation consists of Sasha&#8217;s older works which feel right at home with his newer productions and that&#8217;s not just because of the remastering. All of the elements we know and love are here; pulsating synths, shadowy effects, tense atmospherics and stomping drums.The three closing tracks show Mr. Carassi in top form again, with &#8220;Phorme&#8221; setting the tone with staccato stabs and rumbling subs. &#8220;Globular Cluster&#8221; gives a taste of a dismal, mechanized future, and the closing &#8220;Old Fashioned Lover&#8221; gives a firm nod to the old school with trademarked chords and familiar vocals.</p>

In what is a momentous occasion for Soma Records, we hit the milestone 400th release of the label and who better to see this in than label heads SLAM as they lead up to their new album due to drop this October. Soma are proud to present the double A sided Rotary/Catacoustics. Slam have been locked away in the studio these past months working hard on their latest album which sees them look to past machines and new technologies to form the base of this new album. These album sessions have spawned two raucous tracks that state where the veteran producers are with their sound. These tracks have the dance floor firmly in mind and display the years of experience Slam have in knowing what exactly will whip up a storm.

Rotary opens the EP with a definite analogue rawness as a storming synth hook leads the track from the offset. Keeping it stripped back the boys allow the hook to bend and evolve over the course of the track, reminiscent of early Hood-esq minimalism. Straight up percussion backs the track and keeps the groove true to Techno.

Catacoustics takes things down a deeper route as low subs rumble while a nicely delayed bell tone reverberates gently in the background giving depth to the track. Strung out percussion flutters in the back as subtle time stretch is applied giving this a trippy and mind melting feel. Slam pull back on the reigns ever so slightly going into the break as yet more subtle builds give tension before firing back with the hypnotic feel essence of the track

Soma400 signals the start of the countdown to the latest Slam album and also shows why they have been in electronic music for over 20 years.

Originally released as part of a vinyl only Drumcode Ltd release, Mark Broom sent me his own version a couple of years back but I decided it was so good that it needed to be heard so I included this never-to-be-released edit of 'Eyes Wide Open' on my Fabric 87 mix compilation.

The  release  opens  with  the  title  track,  The  Mask  Of  Sanity;  Over  8  minutes  of  haunting  synth work and expertly compiled drums that build to a bubbling crescendo of that Reset Robot sound we all know and adore. Track two is Bil'am's Donkey; A harder more-to-the-point weapon with pounding  drums  that  doesn't  mess  around.  Next  up  is Paradise  Lost;  This  is  more  of  a  driving affair with a house twist. Expect to hear this one on repeat across dancefloors this summer. The release  closes  with Oak  Ridge  Capsule;  Mechanical  yet  groovy,  moody  but  danceable,  this  is exactly why we love what Reset Robot encapsulates so much.

Sasha Carassi, hailing from Napoli, is a DJ, producer and composer whose style spans eclectically across the electronic landscape.
Sasha began his musical journey during the first years of the 90's, working as resident DJ at Dinamik, the most famous club in the area, when he was only 15. Influenced by House Music and Breakbeat, he has ventured into the production world, releasing his first album in 2002, after which followed a slew of well-received singles that cemented his reputation as producer. But 2010 was a massive year for Sasha production-wise, with releases on a host of big labels including the mighty Drumcode and Bedrock. This saw him make his presence known in the darker, big-room oriented side of the genre. Sasha loves the studio and his output is always visceral and atmospheric with trademark touches that makes his tunes instantly recognizable, perfectly proved in his “Picture” on Solomun’s Diynamic, where he shows his change of musical direction. Nowadays, in fact, he doesn't love defining himself with a proper genre because for him it is really limiting, but he loves feeling free to express his emotions, trying to mix and balance the different influences.
In 2009 he founded one of the most respected Techno labels “Phobiq”, releasing killer cuts discovering many talents as well as his own, but he broke away from it to launch his new label “ILINX”, which fully reflects his views on music. 
Avid vinyl collector since the late 80’s, now he can boast a wide range of records, from the classic to the most contaminated electronic music. Known as a “seasoned veteran”, Sasha is revered within the electronic music scene for his skills and work ethic.
