Whenever we send Hans the demo of a new song, one of the most enticing parts of the process is that we never know what is going to come winging it’s way back from Hamburg.  We never try and steer him in any particular direction because we have total faith that whatever he sends will  be much, much better than anything we’d had in mind.

Quite often, once a week or two has passed and he’s had the chance to expand on his thinking, he’ll send another version, totally different from the first but always something equally as brilliant, causing both Tel and myself to ponder which one to post.   A quandary of the very best kind.  

Chris O is a multi-faceted musician who seems at home within any genre but there’s no doubt she is best known for her mastery of The Blues, hence the demo leaning very firmly in that direction…or so we thought  However, on hearing it for the first time, Hans heard something very different.  His thoughts focused on a simple piano / voice ballad, something we were certainly not expecting but which totally blew us away.

By the end of that weekend though, along too came the blues version, a delicious groove to which I couldn’t wait to add some drums and as those who’ve already heard it will know, that’s the one we eventually posted.  Nevertheless, the indelible mark imprinted on my sensibilities by the unplugged mix simply refused to go away.  Even though it’s precisely the same vocal, the pared-back accompaniment pushes it’s heart and it’s power to the fore and I felt that it deserved to be heard.  So that’s the reason we’re posting ‘The Love of Mrs. O’, phase two…

"This song started with Tez coming up with a heavy riddim and monster bass to go with it, over which he laid his clockwork rhythm guitar. He shared it with Josh, who came up with the piano and organ parts. It was pretty much done, but we wated vocals on it, so it languished on the digital shelf for almost half a year. 
  That is until Saskia heard and worked with Tez on a different open collab on his page. He then offered her this one. She downloaded it, added her superb vocals, and sent it back to the other two to review. They were blown away by her creativity and skill as a singer, and are very grateful to her for reviving the project. 
  When it was all laid down, Tez mixed it expertly, as always. Saskia took his mix, sped it up and adjusted her vocals, too. She is a very competent producer, as well.
  Tez and Josh are big dub fans from way back, and this is the latest in a couple year running series of collabs in the genre from the two of them. They are very grateful to Saskia for doing such a wonderful job of completing the song. Look for her in future collabs, both with Tez and Josh, as well as with their band, The Eclectic Collective. A piano song that I recorded on January 31, 2025. While I have goofed around with piano in my life, I have never ever recorded a track by myself. I just put my cell phone using GarageBand, on my upright piano, and pushed record! I hadn’t even touched the piano in about five years! I sent this over to my awesome online band, Eclectic Collective. They were more than enthusiastic to add some orchestration.! it definitely falls in the classical/rock category!
