Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community: Continue to make space for yourself, your friends, queer family, all your loved ones and the future of a community that comes after. There are so many spaces out there that aren't meant for us or don't understand us or simply don't want us but we have to continue to push beyond ourselves, up the ante and care for one another and make space for every queer person that walks into a space for now and even later.

Influences: I'm most influenced and inspired by the hardworking people around me who help me believe in myself. Tom who runs Techno Queers has been my close techno companion since we were dubstep rave babies together, my Distrikt1 co-organizer Nerea (Ne/Re/A) helped me find a home in the techno community in New York, Aaron J of Sure Thing has been an inspiring, grounded, community-driven co-promoter in Boston and NY, my longtime friend Dennis (Parzer/Open Ground) in Boston was one of the first people I ever did DIY events with and I'll never forget what I learned from those, my partner Nathaniel (Blankstairs) whose intrinsic musical work ethic always motivates me to keep doing what I feel no matter what's happening in the "scene."

I'm also inspired by collectives and mix series like this one that keep their ear to the underground and highlight marginalized artists - Noctuary, Beyond/Below, DIESELcast, Abstract without Abstraction, TUF, Beyond/Below, Gays Hate Techno, Honey Soundsystem, Discwoman, Walking & Falling, Maneater, the list is huge and I'm sure I forgot some big ones.

Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community: Collaboration is important and I'm glad to have some great collaborators who both challenge and support me, but you should never feel like you need anyone else's permission to do anything! There are more resources and communities out there than ever to help support marginalized artists - if you have a dream project, don't be afraid to execute it on your own, without compromise (and ask for help when you need it).

Last year I made my first ever print zine for my own mix/interview series, and for some that would be a minor project, but for me it was huge proof to myself that I could pull together a new type of project if I set my mind to it - and finding the confidence to do that (and start my own series at all) took way longer than it probably should have.

Advice for the DJs, artists and producers of our community: I always feel a bit weird giving advice because I feel like I’m still / always still figuring shit out, but if I’ve learned anything its that when you create “art,” it can be easy to fall into ideas of what others are doing and how you should be like them or similar to them, but the most rewarding type of work for me (emotionally and often tangibly) is work that comes right out of you and splats onto the metaphysical page. Our lives as femmes / enby’s / people of color / femmes of color / queers are so enlightened and magical - the knowledges that we have are unique and beautiful and valuable, and the best and only way to channel that magic is through real honesty at the decks / computer / artistic interface. Don’t give a fuck what anyone thinks you should do, they don’t know you and they don’t know what you’re feeling. Real honest work smells like freshly baked bread, or coffee roasting in the morning - it’s fkn irresistible.
