The continuation of the Italo Funk Story takes us on yet another trip through Italy. From 'Venaria’, a little village just outside of Turin where Stump Valley offer a blissful taste of the regions deep house flavours.

Blessed, with a bruising Otis Redding like voice the young Toots had been discovered singing in a barbershop in Trench Town. By 1973 Toots and The Maytals had their rabble-rousing bar-room reggae down to a fine art. Funky Kingston, recorded at the Dynamic Studios in Kingston for Warwick Lyn and on Island Records, ramps the soul side of their sound for one of the most uplifting reggae songs of all time. 
 
Toots and the Maytals became a favourite of rock critics in the 70s and listening to Funky Kingston, it is easy to understand why. The muscular rhythms, “Toots” Hibbert’s hoarse exhortations and his slightly surreal lyrics appealed to the spirit of a more fundamental age that rock music had lost.

After Nu Guinea’s LP Nuova Napoli and Napoli Segreta first compilation, NG RECORDS follows up with an exploration into the unknown groovy side of Naples by releasing Napoli Segreta Vol.2.

Famiglia Discocristiana, DNApoli and Nu Guinea team up again selecting more tracks from their archives, for a new compilation containing nine mysterious Neapolitan tracks, found in the most hidden corners of remote flea markets around the Vesuvius.
But forget classical Neapolitan songs, "'O sole mio" or "Luna Rossa"... 
Forget about what you expect to find once you land in town… oh and also forget about Google maps. Take a dodgy local guide, keep your eyes open, and follow it to enter the secret downtown, the underground, the routes that no satellite can detect, but beware there is no easy way out. 

Napoli Segreta Vol.2 is a musical journey into the sonic landscapes of Naples that you have never heard of before. A variety of genres merging soul, disco, funk, blues, new wave, afro-beat and boogie, including lyrics in Neapolitan urban slang, instrumental tracks with prog-rock flavour, and also some unexpected cover versions of famous songs!

Lungomare is a beautiful composition by French composer Réne Aubry. He was born in 1956 and he is a incredible multi-instrumentalist able to blend classical music styles with modern touches.

"Lungomare" was released in 1998 within the album "Plaisirs D'Amour"

When I listen to this wonderful song with my eyes closed I could travel to anywhere in the world and watch a warm sunset in front of the sea with a big smile in my face.

2020 has dealt out some heavy losses to musical pioneers across the spectrum but few have contributed so much for such a prolonged period as Tony Allen. Rising to prominence as part of Fela's Egypt 70, he's credited by Kuti himself as a co-founder of afrobeat, but his work since has helped carve a singular career as a percussion polymath. 

In 2016, Napoli-via-Berlin duo Nu Guinea were granted rare access to Allen's drum recordings to rework them into an original album called Tony Allen Experiments. It makes them as familiar with his work as any and perfectly placed to curate this Praise You to one of the greatest drummers who ever lived.
