Hi Friends! Been a minute since I posted something to my Soundcloud page. This is a recording of my set at a magical campout earlier this month, one which I've been participating in the last few summers called Diane's Hunting Club. It's a special space with a lot of care given so that everyone can stretch out and immerse themselves in a deeper listening experience, in the middle of a forest, on a fantastic 4 corner sound system. I got an opportunity to play some more experimental stuff, and also some minimal, acid and house grooves that I missed playing. I dedicated this set to Michel Baumann aka Soulphiction, aka Jackmate aka Manmade Science (the list of fantastic alias and projects goes on and on) who I have always looked up to, and whose music inspired and touched me and so many others over the years. He will be greatly missed but his spirit through music lives on!

Hey Friends! Happy to share the recording of my closing set at my favorite campout gathering, Diane's Hunting Club. This campout is a place to stretch out, lose track of time, meditate on the many beautiful leaf fractals, share old favorites, new treasures and things that don't always fit for a dance floor set. I love these few days in the woods with friends, everyone contributing to the collective joy in their own way! Diane's Hunting Club 2022

I recently went to San Francisco last year for Thanksgiving and I found some time to split away from the family and check out this party called As You Like It. Thanks to Resident Advisor, I got the 411 on Prosumer's whereabouts the day before his debut at States of Being in Los Angeles. Luckily I decided to make it out to the party and was adorned by the sounds of AYLI resident, Sam Kern aka Sassmouth spinning vinyls of grooving sultry acid-house. Sassmouth has been DJ/producing electronic music for years now and has a foundation of dance music locked in through studying and being apart of Chicago and Detroit's house and techno scenes. She has a confident resilience in the 12" she spins and fights the power for woman DJs around the world, effortlessly slaying dancefloors. Her participation with electronic dance community, The Naughty Bad Fun Collective, has conjured up a new night at Chicago's beloved, Smart Bar, called Planet Chicago, where Sam will be playing on March 22nd. From Chicago to SF, Sassmouth installs the 50th mix in the DECKast series. We are highly appreciative of her hour long generous sound distribution, featuring a solid dance tracklist. There are nothing but good dance vibrations to gage the listener into a body-bopping trance. Read what she had to say about the mix and listen to it below...

"This podcast was inspired by a special night spent playing and dancing until the very end at an underground event in San Francisco a couple of months ago. I played the opening set, a challenge I always savor- starting off with some moodier ambient tracks and building the groove as all the friendly faces make their way to the dance floor. Thats Deck Podcast January 2014

Communion is a fantastic Sunday afternoon outdoor house party that takes place in Minneapolis thoughout the summer months.  I was fortunate enough to play a set in honor of my longtime friend Grimace, who was celebrating his 40th birthday that weekend.  Many of the tracks in this set are classics, stuff that I knew Grimace loved or ones he had ID'ed for me what feels like another lifetime ago, when I first started DJing.  Thank you Communion and all the party people who came out to dance with me that wonderful June afternoon!

This year at Diane's I needed to release some pent up Acid Mama energy after being held hostage by my work captors for a few days leading up to the campout. Don't be fooled by the first half hour- this recording is probably best enjoyed during intense workouts, at home dance parties while candy-flipping, or any time you need to work something out of your system, like I did that night. Very grateful to the Diane's crew for setting up such an incredible sound system and party in the woods once again, where I was able to create my own little sound vortex.

Recorded in that special clearing in the woods at Diane's Hunting Club, Friday afternoon under partly cloudy skies. I have been collecting reggae and dub records since I was a teenager, and what a treat to finally play them for friends on such a fantastic sound system, after 30 years! My first years of life were spent living  in the Virgin Islands with my parents and older sister, and perhaps that left me with a forever love affair of Carribbean sounds. Such a treat to mix them with lots of the dub minimal and techno records I bought over the last 22 on such a proper sound system (Thank you K-rad and Herman!) And thank you to Diane, the guiding spirit of those woods, who constantly inspires me to share and create things in new ways at her gathering. xo

The recording of my 8 hour 48 minute set at the Cruise Control party here in Chicago at the beloved Listening Club. Probably the most fun and fufulling set I've ever gotten to play.  Would love to do something like this again some day for the right party! xo 

SASSMOUTH at CRUISE CONTROL 10/5/24

This year I asked to play a sunrise set and the good keepers of Diane's kindly obliged my desire. This set started at 3am and ended at 6am. I wanted to explore a joyful playful dark energy until the sun began to rise. Includes minimal favorites that I rediscovered in my collection after schlepping all the records to the new place, and some wild vortex inducing stuff that I had always wanted to play at Dianes at the darkest hour before the light started to filter through the trees. Strangely I was listening to this set when I had a near death experience last month. I feel lucky to be alive, and also relieved and grateful that K-rAD always does such an incredible job recording these sets at Dianes that will far outlive my existence in this current human form in which I feel lucky to still occupy. Sending lots of love to all my friends and family that sent me so much positive energy- it absolutely helped in my healing this month. This set is for all of you. <3

For various reasons it took me over a year to finally contribute something to Ari's Sordid Culture podcast.  I was busy with my young daughter, with work, with a move from London back to the States, but also wanting to do something special with a certain sound and vibe in mind. I started putting various tracks on vinyl and mp3 into a folder labeled 'Sordid' knowing at some point I'd get around to it.  Ari had given me the greatest compliment once that he thought my music was perfect for the morning- that sort of intimate afters space that I loved playing more than anything. So here it is- a mix of my favorite 'morning music', old and new for the Sordid Culture podcast. Phil and I met during a DJ contest 8 years ago and have been friends ever since.  Although we have rarely tagged, it was pretty amazing how comfortable and intuitive it felt to play together this last Sunday.  We kept laughing at all the same records we randomly brought and played. As Olin put it, it was the politest tag he's ever heard.  So here it is, the friendly, somewhat messy finale to Ryan's 40th.  Small moment of silence around the half way mark to sing the birthday boy Happy Birthday.

Sassmouth is a DJ based in her longtime adopted home, Chicago. She playfully mixes all kinds of records with a focus on techno, house, acid and electro sounds. She created her label god particle as a homage to this style of DJing- a place for friends to showcase music that connects the dots between all these styles of dance music. She is a rave mom and real mom and co-runs Walking and Falling- a mentor program for woman and non-binary music enthusiasts that want to learn to DJ. If you don’t see her in the booth she is very likely dancing her ass off by the front left speaker.
