Poolside's Jeffrey Paradise has rightly made a name for himself over the past decade producing the kind of blissed out downtempo disco that cocktails and sunsets were made for. Having recently seen Satin Jackets remix his own 'Losing Control' single to stunning effect, the Los Angeles producer returns the favour adding his distinctive warm touch to the sublime 'Spell'.  One of three songs on Satin Jacket's new album featuring up & coming British singer Tailor, Poolside rebuilds the track around the track's yearning vocals, looping and sending them echoing off into space accompanied by a bubbling synth bass line and etheric synth washes whilst a chugging 97bpm house beat keeps our feet anchored safely to the dance floor.      “I loved working on this remix after being a fan of Satin Jackets for so long, especially his recent remix of my song ‘Losing Control," explains Paradise. "The original ‘Spell’ is a great track, so I wanted to honor it while still making it my own. I added some classic Poolside slow motion house music vibes to the entire thing, and also played with the structure a lot by making the original chorus the bridge and adding a new chorus of my own with a cut up vocal. Following a recent trip to Norway to work with fellow Eskimo artists Atella and Cavego, Tim was moved to try and capture some of his experiences there in musical form. “After experiencing a world known for its Northern Lights, I wanted to take that concept and run with it, asking myself how we could reflect this phenomena in music," Tim explains. "Despite a busy schedule, I couldn't help but take a day off and go on a trip exploring the country and the depths and beauty of one of the Fjords in the area. It was absolutely breath-taking."

 

Inspired by Tim’s experiences and music David’s lyrics narrate a journey out on the cosmic highway to find the Northern Lights, his soft vocal delivery underpinning the song’s message and bringing a sense of warmth, nostalgia and expectation as we’re led out in the dusk to explore the both the world below and skies above them. "We locked ourselves into the studio for a few days to let our imagination take its course and weave the impressions into music,” David explains. “The end result was so vivid, it felt like I had been there for it all along."

Having previously worked together on the smooth and seductive 'Through The Night' and massive streaming hit 'Northern Lights', 'Shadow Of You' finds the two artists once again perfectly complimenting each other's visions, Tim's warm production wrapping itself around David's sensual vocals in a loving embrace.

Where 'Northern Lights' was more about escape, and 'Through The Night' about being with others I wrote this particular song about dancing with your shadow, the darkness in yourself. Having previously collaborated on one of 'Solar Nights' standout singles 'Automatic' it was only a matter of time before the two artists reconnected. "Working with Jarrah on 'Automatic' was a real pleasure and right away we both knew that we'd want to work with each other again," explains Tim. 

"Luckily, as it happens, we didn't have to wait too long!  I always say that work on the next album starts the minute the last one was released and I'd already had some ideas that I thought would suit Jarrah. We quickly realised we had something here and in the end 'Electric Blue' was one of those tracks where everything clicked and it just came together really quickly."

With its dream-like melodies, sparkling synths and Panama's softly delivered vocals, 'Electric Blue' is the perfect soundtrack to both dancing the night away or for doing your best John Cusack impression and standing outside someone's house with a boombox above your head*. 

Whilst the release of 'Solar Nights' may have cemented his position as one of the biggest and best nu-disco producers working today, 'Electric Blue' shows Bernhardt has no plans to sit back and rest on his laurels just yet.

As we ease ourselves into 2021 clubs may still be closed but that hasn’t slowed down nu-disco star Tim Bernhardt, AKA Satin Jackets. Now he’s partnered with up and coming UK vocalist Tailor on new single, ‘Relapse’, and again struck gold as Tailor’s vocals, touched with a sense of nostalgic melancholy, are the perfect fit for Tim’s smooth mix of disco beats and evocative melodies.

“‘Relapse’ is about a relationship that you know is destructive in the long run but you can't help going back to,” explains Tailor. “Those moments of bliss, excitement and then serenity are fleeting but you'd rather stay lost than face the reality. The song’s influenced by the dance floor and the vibe you get when you lose yourself to everything in the moment, but deep down you know the feeling can't last.”

Having clocked up more than 50 million streams on Spotify alone for his 2019 album ‘Solar Nights’, 2020 saw Tim build on that with a string of acclaimed instrumental releases and hit collaborations with Metaxas and Panama. Kicking off 2021 in fine style ‘Relapse’ is sure to follow in their footsteps and once again is as perfect an accompaniment to chilling on the sofa as it would be to nursing a cocktail around a pool.

For over a decade now the name Satin Jackets has been synonymous with sublimely laidback Balearic house and sun kissed disco. The brainchild of German producer Tim Bernhardt who, following a successful career producing house music under a variety of different aliases, launched Satin Jackets as a vehicle to explore his lifelong love of disco and the clean, polished productions of artists like Chic and Trevor Horn.

“I had always been fascinated by just how glossy people like Nile Rodgers made their music,” Bernhardt explains. “It always sounded like the musical equivalent of a fashion magazine’s cover. I’d been making somewhat more underground music for a while but really wanted to go in totally the other direction and create this really smooth, polished sound.”

That first Satin Jackets release, the dreamlike You Make Me Feel Good, would set the tone for what was to come. Released on the iconic Belgian label Eskimo Recordings, which had previously helped launch the careers of artists like Aeroplane and Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas, it was an instant hit. Its graceful melodies, airy textures and yearning chorus became the soundtrack to the setting sun at parties worldwide.

With almost metronomic precision You Make Me Feel Good was followed by a string of acclaimed singles and remixes for some of the genre’s biggest names, including Goldroom and Blank & Jones, establishing Bernhardt as one of the most exciting new names in the nu-disco scene. While the face behind the mask may have remained a mystery, Satin Jackets’ warm, polished take on disco soon made the name familiar to music lovers around the world.

Taking things to the next level, 2016’s debut Satin Jackets album, Panorama Pacifico, firmly cemented Bernhardt’s position as both Eskimo’s flagship artist and as one of the biggest nu-disco producers around. Winning praise from the likes of Mixmag, DJ Mag and Groove, the album has gone on to click up over 75 million streams on Spotify alone, and Satin Jackets’ golden mask has become a regular fixture behind the decks at clubs and festivals from Mexico City to Seoul.

2019’s follow up, Solar Nights, would see Bernhardt further develop and refine the Satin Jackets sound. Rapturously received by fans, DJs and press alike, the album, propelled by singles like the global hit ‘Northern Lights’, proved that, much like the original disco artists that first inspired the project, Bernhardt was just as capable of crafting radio friendly pop hits as tracks for the dance floor.

While the pandemic may have put plans for global tours and festival appearances on hold, Bernhardt kept himself busy as clubland went into hibernation. Having relocated to Munich just before lockdown, a succession of singles that ranged from out-and-out pop collaborations to instrumental, chilled-out tracks as well as a series of live Lockdown Streams kept Bernhardt in touch with his ever growing legion of fans. Indeed, it was those Lockdown Streams and the response from his fans that allowed Bernhardt to rediscover, in his own words, “the connection between what I do and what people feel” and sow the seeds for what was to come.

Now as we emerge blinking into the new world, Bernhardt returns with Satin Jackets’ third album, the aptly titled Reunion. Where the first two Satin Jackets albums saw Bernhardt work to first develop his own sound and then elevate his productions to another level, Reunion reveals a musician and producer wholly at ease with both his abilities in the studio and artistic vision. 

From blissful instrumental tracks that seem to effortlessly float above the clouds, through to bittersweet wistful pop songs featuring the likes of Australian star Panama, Belgian singer Ivy Falls, US based vocalist Metaxas and up-and-coming British singer Tailor, Reunion is a strikingly confident album that layers new depths and dimensions to the Satin Jackets sound and sets the stage for the next exciting chapter of the Satin Jackets story.
