25 damn years. That’s a quarter of a bloody century. That’s how long the men that are Total Science have been furnishing the world of Drum & Bass with some of the finest music known to men. And that’s cos they’re G’s. And also it’s for everyone. Cos that’s what you do when you’re a G. And not a twit. You know? 

It’s been 5 long years since the CIA 20 album. Which isn’t that long really. But the man with the hair, and the man without the hair are so amazed that they’re still going, still here, still bloody doing it, and doing it with such aplomb, that they thought another album of great music from some of their favourite people was due. And so here it is. 

And obviously, cos they’re such G’s, they’ve got hot new music from some of the best people in D&B, cos everybody loves them, obviously. It’s a veritable who’s who of who’s good. Proper music for proper people. It’s what you need in this day and age. And it’s what they’ve been doing for 25 years. So here it is. 25 Years Of CIA Records. Have a go on that!

London-born producer @F-D returns to The North Quarter with his new “Lanta Nights EP”, to be released on June 12th. After his masterful debut album “Better Days” - which transcended genres through a richly detailed palette - he now returns with a more compact piece: all killers, no fillers. Drawing influences from Dub, Hip Hop and Soul and mixing them with his London club roots, his growth as an artist and technician is clearly shown on this diverse but signature sounding 5 track EP. Lanta Nights kicks off with two vocal tracks: the first - Lie To You - is a delicate soulful track featuring Akemi Fox,with the second - The Feeling - a 90’s Hip Hop inspired jam featuring KinKai. The EP then dips into rolling Dub inspired science fiction mayhem for the final three tracks. Essential listening. 

“There isn’t a theme here really, because as an artist I find it important to express myself in a wide range of styles” FD explains. “It’s just me trying to put my own spin on what for me are ‘classic’ Drum & Bass fundamentals, expressing them in a contemporary way. I want to try and retain depth and honesty in my music, something that has been important to me in music since I first got into it.”

Roughly a year after his Kodak Dreams LP Submorphics returns to The North Quarter with Newport Magnetic: a six track project that sees the Detroit native reinvent his trademark lo-fi take on Drum & Bass. While looking to the future and growing artistically on this project, Submorphics continues to drawn inspiration from hazy rare grooves, resulting in a refreshing showcase of his creative vision.

To compliment the new ethos, Newport Magnetic features some stunning vocalists in London's VEDA BLACK, Detroit rap legend (and J Dilla collaborator) Phat Kat as well as Steo and Ras Tweed. All things Submorphics are present here: meditative smoked out vibes, music with a message, melancholic chords and soulful Drum & Bass. This is Submorphics 2.0, keeping if fresh for 2021.

“After completing my highly nostalgic Kodak Dreams LP, it was time to write a new EP taking inspirations from both the present and future” Submorphics explains. “Joined by a diverse cast of global contributors documenting their current struggles and hopes for tomorrow, I set out to create a series of deeper tracks with an updated sonic palette. Samie A is a producer and DJ based in Yeovil, resident DJ with Intrigue and previously part of Superior Selectionz.

Superior Selectionz were a Somerset based drum & bass collective. Their first release was ‘Teknique’ on Lockdown Recordings back in 2007, which received airplay from the likes of Klute, Cybin and Bungle. They had 4 EPs on Lockdown in total. Most recently they had 2 full length EPs on Intrigue Music featuring label boss Ben Soundscape and vocalist Collette Warren.

Gig appearances included Progression Sessions, Rebirth, Innovation in the Sun, Bristol Festival, Random Concept, Bedlam and Infidelity. They were resident DJs at Intrigue, one of Bristol’s longest running drum & bass nights.
