After 15 years working with a huge spectrum of DnB greats, London based Irishman Cian McCann aka Zero T has long since established his place in the scene. From his early days in Dublin with the Bassbin label to working with the likes of Calibre,4 Hero, Klute, Alix Perez, Rockwell and Noisia, he has never stood still. 2008's Cheap Shots LP for Total Science's CIA Records was a high point, with lead track Walk Away bringing vocalist Steo to the worlds attention.

Fierce has been at the forefront of the drum & bass scene since the mid 1990s, starting with his early excursions at No U-Turn from the tender age of 16 to his involvement in some of the scene's seminal musical moments such as 'Alien Girl', 'Locust', 'The End' and 'Tightrope' on prestigious labels including Prototype, Metro, Virus, Ram, BC, DSCi4, DNAudio and 31 Records.  As well as bringing his undoubted skills to the table on the production front, Fierce has long been known as one of the most exciting and energetic DJs around, widely respected by both his peers and drum & bass fans alike. Still harbouring an insatiable love for dubplates and vinyl ahead of MP3s, CDs and USBS, Fierce really is a DJs' DJ, bringing sounds from across the spectrum and uniquely fusing tracks together in the mix to create a new and fresh sound every time.

Fierce and Zero T has become a formidable collaboration of late. The pair work from individual studios throwing ideas back and forth and the results speak for themselves. Bonesmen is classic era Reinforced and Metalheadz all over, brought bang up to date with Fierce’s trademark roll out aesthetic. The AA side- In Circles is takes the same rolling function but on a totally different route, soulful and uplifting but still not compromising what the pair have become known for.

“Over the past 15 years the label I started as a hobby, as a way to involve myself in drum and bass, has taken over my life. I’m so lucky to have worked with such incredible artists, have them realise their creativity, and travelled all over the world spreading the sound I love.

I deliberated for a long time over what type of record we should put together to celebrate reaching both our 15th birthday and 100th release. I like to think of us as a label that looks forward, that focuses on what the future holds and on how to make statements without sacrificing our core ideals, to release exciting music centred around the 170bpm tempo. So with this in mind I wanted the LP to be about where the label is now and where it’s going, a snapshot of the music that represents the Critical sound by core label acts and some choice friends.

It was late 2015 when Brazil's Level 2 and DJ Chap lit the fuse and sparked off the Alibi team-up. Individually, they were already well-established, but this move would take the levels even higher. Smashing into our consciousness with a huge set at SUNANDBASS in 2016, the new duo quickly built a reputation for being prime exponents of the future sound of Brazil. As testified to, if proof were needed, by them featuring on Hospital's 'Future Sound of Brazil EP' and contributing some of the stand out cuts on the recent 'Viva Brazil' album presented by DJ Patife. With a series of huge releases and download chart-topping success under their belt, including colabs with Command Strange and Disaszt, their 'Inception EP' comes loaded with anticipation.

Now, we've already seen these producers display multiple facets to their drum & bass. Influences of tech, liquid, jump-up, and more have peppered their output like 'Aftermath' and 'The Hornet EP'. So, of course, Alibi have taken the opportunity afforded by this five-track release to stretch out across sub-genre divisions once again.

As tension is ramped up from the stripped-back bass-weighted 'Knockout', through to the tech paranoia of 'Inception', you might imagine you know where this EP's going to take you. Then 'Greenline 02' comes along to wrong-foot you with with its dubby, subby tints melting into euphoric chords. 'Reizenstein' adds another hint of darkness, with vibes as shadow-shrouded as the meaning of the title. But then there's the switch-up of 'Morning Glory', an emotive fluid-soul roller which has that summer-night feeling encoded deep in its DNA.

Having been instrumental in bringing the D&B of Brazil to the world in the first place, the V Recordings camp is now intimately associated with its next stage of evolution. You see, with more styles and influences in the melting pot, the architecture is developing. And, globally-influenced but SÃ£o Paulo-rooted, Alibi's 'Inception EP' lays out the blueprint.

Air.K & Cephei - Broken

Subdue, one of the UK's finest rising talents, has returned to Riddim Records with some his most elegant work to date. With his unique and stylistic approach to Drum & Bass, 'Dusk', a new four track EP, perpetuates the sound that we at Riddim hold so dear, fusing tech-y rollers, glitchy beats, deep atmospherics and newfangled vocals.

The title track, 'Dusk', is our first stop: progressive euphoria with both incredible warmth and a delicate sound. Deep bass and hypnotic drums bring the vibes.

'When I'm Alone' hangs a sharp left into a dark and tech-y roller with seriously eerie undertones. Subdue goes even deeper with the glitchy 'Reality'. A murky stepper that combines a raunchy lead synth and powerful sub. 

Finally, 'Afraid of You' is the warm glow ending the tunnel, featuring the rich vocals of ES. Kay, one of Riddim's newest signings. A signature ballad to take us home.

It's been nearly a year since Subdue's last Riddim Records feature 'Who Am I' on our VA album in early 2020. He's now returned home, and what a return it is.
