The Story of You was a long time coming... I started writing it while we were in the studio recording "In Between the Blinks" So a handful of the songs have been with us, and played, for over a year. I feel like the growth that has occurred in the last year has been so vast, and the record really speaks to that for me. The growth of the band in members, and I think this summer/fall was a really transformative time for all of us. I was working through a lot of stuff, sealed up a couple last bits of my past, getting used to touring and the ups and downs involved there. I think David and Karl were both figuring it out as we went as well. I think the understanding and acceptance that followed every bout of struggle is what we are here for. It is all a part of the story... So accept, forgive, and love YOUR STORY. It’s the only one you got ;-)

In this record he channels the lessons of the great leaders and inspirations who came before; Nina, Hampton, Malcolm, and King. Says McManus, “I was drawn to revisit all of their work and lessons over the last year or two in writing this record.” However, the foundation of Drew's development is heard in the first voice on the record; that of his high-school art teacher who first gave direction to McManus' artistic nature. Those lessons culminate in Kulture and shine as inspiration for the listener.
