Could our buddy Rich Kennedy get his ass beat or kick someone's ass over being a Clash fan or a Led Zep fan back in the day? DMD headbangs with metalheads at a Duran Duran concert. Is it true?

AIDS takes all the fun out of dating for DMD yet he was too clueless to know as he thought his prude sisters and fellow South Plantation schoolgirls were behind the curve for the most part. No Trend's "Teen Love" is dissected and comes too close to home for comfort.

# 2.) Too close to home for comfort

Soundsational Sense lays the groundwork of what will be the best podcast in the land! With a little history and context. 

DMD talks possibly way too much about the saxophone for comfort. What is this? Dad get me a saxophone! Easter cards with rabbits playing sax? What a nerd?!! 

Sound S gets his freak on with marching band drumming and jazz band. Death Metal starts on geetar. Later it manifests itself to an amp and effects pedals to emulate U2.

These two guys riff out history on early bands and gigs. Sunglasses at night damnit! Sha Na Na first album?! NERD!!! From Hendrix at Woodstock, asshole soundguys, Hip-hop culture and why punkers liked Guns N Roses before anyone.

# 1.) Who we are and if'n you don't like it we can go right now, bitches!!

The Rock Box makes it's aura known as Sense goes out on his own, brothu! Sense's father "you know I could come get you" Sense "you could come try and we'll see how this goes" 

Soundsational has an uphill battle keeping the place clean and finding work. Hones his chops with local rockers and gets blown away by Load as did most of South Florida in the early 1990's 

DMD unabashedly boasts and brags about bagging groceries with future Helmet drummer John Stainer at Publix in Plantation. Witnesses Stainer's transformation firsthand from cover band drummer to fellow hardcore punker which ultimately culminates into a full-on brawl at a Plantation High Battle of the Bands in 1986.            
                                   
Upon his triumphant return to South Florida in 1999 Motel 666 is formed as Doug joins Sean and Chris Chavez (Human Buffet, Blowfly). From there DMD explains his early band Headcave in Huntsville AL and how it became the largest drawing group (300 peeps!) of that town's history as he left the Army in 1991.

# 3.) You could come try and we'll see how this goes

Headcave talk persists as Death Metal finds another band with the same name. Explains how selling tapes for six months before playing live built up a very large following.  

Is the drummer Tim and guitarist Larry of Primus too serious onstage? Why the fuck do they never smile when Les's lyrics go far beyond lowbrow? Les is phenominal on bass but is Florida's own David Pastorious the best bass player in the whole wide world? Queens of the Stone Age or Them Crooked Vultures? And how did ROR fit in with stoner rock or classic rock. 

Did the internet destroy music? Or did the internet save music? How is it that younger people are better musicians than ever at this point when real music does not make the the Top 40? Is there even a music industry and what do the charts mean anymore?

Major labels, toxic masculinity and the media. Oh My! Click your heels, watch it disappear realizing there is no place like home. Young people don't do cable TV so will it die? More importantly will it kill the current media that is far more toxic than masculinity can ever be. We sure hope so!

Soundsational and Death Metal describe their new intro and how it barely got off the ground due to an amplifier in pieces.

Death Metal reminisces his own version of "the Reveloution Summmer" (technically the birth of Post-hardcore emo in Washington DC) with Bob Slade's "Off the Beaten Path", Spin magazine and how indie rock transformed his perception of music in the summer of 1985. 

From there listeners get Soundsational getting the ball rolling on analog recording running the gamut all the way down to Lars Ulrich's douchbaggery over MP3s.                 
                                   Death Metal even talks about death metal for the first time. Imagine that!

# 5.)If you don't like it, go to the other room

Sence & Doug Welcome their first guest to the show. Guitarist/Artist Gery Klappert.

Gery goes way back with Alex Blue on drums/vocals with Azur while pondering the idea of starting a group from the ground up as ultimately preferable to joining someone else's band. Ensembles without bassists are debated as well and Gery's guitar centric mindset mined mainly through the power of Jimi Hendrix realized.

Age differences and generations dealt with. Spoiler alert. Gery K. born in 1988, Soundsational in 1974 and Death Metal in 1968 making him the resident old fart of the crew. We find out Gen X has four years pre Death and four years post Sound. "Groovy" as they say.

DMD unwittingly showboats a friendship with Brent Hinds of Mastadon. Fishing for ratings he exploits any situation thrown his way so watch out, snookums! The spiel moves toward Toxic Masculinity rearing its beautiful head once again in an obscure name choice by SNS "The Phallic Principle" and the process of picking a moniker that is imaginative enough to avoid another prissy, pissy pants group and their pesky attorneys composing the letter nasty. 

And speaking of nasty Alex gets off performing near strip club Scarlet's with neighbors and happy endings. One could wager he's in tha dog house as he gets home. Addiction and genuine sickness are acknowledged.  "The worst drug. Musicians buying gear is like a drug! There is no rehab for it."

Gery describes a Motorhead covers w/ Mudknuckles (feat. Ray of Load on lead vocals) at Churchills and having 3 days to learn the set. All this with his wife in the hospital! Talk about pressure. Sence describes a "he who shall not be named" circumstance as subject matter devolves into naked haircuts and what not. (P.S. DMD makes some corrections about Morbid Angel from podcast 5 so the S FL metal mafia does not hunt him down like a dog . As the duel segue into a double bass drum talking frenzy. 

Did The Circle Jerks invent thrash? Was Cactus the first band to really use double bass when Keith Moon the first to throw a TV set out of a hotel? John Bonham to Carmine Appice "I learned it from watching you". Later on John gives Carmine a "lesson" about mud sharks. Is Sting actually better than Geddy Lee?

Sence makes sense about appropriating ideas for drums the same way we learn the alphabet. Also genetics are discussed from everything to driving cars to traditional grips on snare drums.

DMD goes into the 50th anniversary of The Stooges "Funhouse". SNS ponders the Beach Boys/Charlie Manson connection then puts the "ass" in astrology because everything happens for a reason. It's all about magnetic pulls, bitches!

#7.)“ I learned it by watching you “!

Death Metal Douglas is amused by horoscope parodies scribed by a would-be mystery woman in the Broward New Times while innocuously showboating and gloating on making the front cover of said publication. Turns out he knows the "music" writer who is some "guy" who slams The Mars Volta's stunning debut who gets a dress down of his own and rightly so. 
 
The Duo spars about liberating musical riffs & concepts a la Led Zep's "Achillies.." vs. Heart's "Barracuda". Rip-off tunes are mulled over and Soundsational Sense gets his mojo moving on a crusade to credit drummers fairly in regards to songwriting and publishing. 

Death Metal struggles tenaciously to get through a story but this is not an easy task to navigate through SNS’s hyper aggressive commentary. Death Metal powers through in regards to fellow bassist Mark Andes' (Spirit, Firefall, Heart) "triangular" relations to the Spirit vs. Led Zep ("Taurus" vs. "Stairway..") lawsuit . 

DMD gets accused online of being Lars Ulrich (we just can't get enough this guy apparently) because he dared to defend Lou Reed's collaboration with Metallica. As always mental rot rears it's ugly head as the conversation devolves into Cory Feldman and Anthony Fantano's "Needle Drop".

Representing with some badass threads our 2nd guest DBJ vocalist Jorge Emilio Ramos . Jorge gets razzed by DMD with "newguy" comments as Death Metal Douglas gets inebriated and misguidedly thinks he is going to de-throne Munch as the king of SFL bass.

Soundsational Sence & Jeorge bond on family members and music as both moms luv them drums. Are the radio stations really relevant? WREK (Georgia Tech) gets a shout out. Sound gets very Egotheisic? Mysticism gets a comb over and can these guys keep drinking and still pronounce words like Apotheosis?

Is 3rd Iron Maiden vocalist Blaze Blaley underrated ? And is it coincidence Jeorge heard him first and is DBJ's 3rd singer? Is moving to Italy a good idea? Does Power metal exists in the US? Was John Dever shot out of the sky by Hunter S. Thompson? A question spawned by a Dumb & Dumber reference made by SNS . Does Honduras have a bigger metal scene than US by far?

#9.) "Cold Ones and Power Metal" with Jorge (Double Barrel Justice)

Death Metal Douglas & Soundsational Sense ramble on through a few topics starting with South Florida local magazines starting with Catherine Anderson from Gold Coast Live. Also mentioned are Sam Rosenthal of Alternative Rhythms/Project music label, Rag and Jam (which had a write-up of Sense's group Dusk to Dusk). 

Sense ponders whether or not there is a cut off age to rock n roll which is brought up in a later discussion featuring Dave Wyndof of Monster Magnet, Dio, vampires etc.

Talking Heads' David Bryne's book is mentioned as SNS shares a tune he discovered that morning (Yeastie Girlz "You Suck") only to find out DMD was already privy to the trio's obscure existence having ordered a YG tape back in the late 80's.

#10.) What you need to hear is Energy

Soundsational Sence and Death Metal Douglas welcome their third guest Ray Sousa (John Denver Fight Club, Load, Good Life Cycle, Grasspatch, Son of Crusher, etc.) and kick things off with technical difficulties, miss-pronounced names (so professional these two), black-outs, brown-outs, and full on exploitation.
                                                                                                         
 So what does pro-wrestling have in common with punk rock and how does it relate to movie premieres and waivers? "I challenge you to a match to the death" said the "He who cannot be named" Andre the Giant sized incompetent drummer who incidentally, according to DMD, sees Nazis in his soup.
                                                                                                        Ray wants listeners to know how cool it is to get guitar lessons from Danzig's John Christ then tips his hat to the importance of projecting a character onstage (or was it Sence’s hat ?). Although borrowing a hat for effect might sound kinda “gurly” there’s nothing” gurly “ about MotorHead! 
                                                                                                       
SNS acknowledges the virtues of quitting and how the title "The Resident Quitter" can be a badge of honor as the evening climaxes with shredding vocal influxes and some tasty guitar sploog a la John Denver Fight Club.

#11.) I challenge you to a match to the death !

Is there something in the air when Soundsational Sence and Death Metal Douglas start the show? DMD gets a whiff of reality at the bus stop on the way to "Savanting the Idiot" as a homeless littering pee-pants redneck surrounded by his own stanky skanky empty beer cans makes his acquaintance. "Do I smell" the freshly showered Dougles inquires.  

Is Terry Bozzio the best drummer on Earth? How does one guy multitask this well without skipping a beat? The phrase/description "the shit" apparently started in the 70's with Frank Zappa instead of the 90's like we thought. Does guitarist Punky Meadows of Angel take the best promo cheese muffin photos ever?

Drumming etiquette is further discussed by Sense from audience members sitting on bass drums to keep them still to the use of a friendly 2 x 4 and a screw gun. The PMRC hearing is remembered as Dee Snider comes off rather well spoken. How big a Zappa fan is Al Gore and can it help the environment? 

From Punky's later plastic surgery to The Bogdanoff twins looking like mutants after quacks took liberty on their faces. They did not wish to talk about elections. We get that but did they really cause those people to die? Will they come after Sence and Doug?

#12.) Punky Wips !

This was originaly intended to be a test run of our new call in system for the show. The target ginny pig is SNS's brother Adam. The trio start out the discussion with a wine talk . That would make any true self respecting wine connoisseur cringe in utter disgust. Adam talks music in movies . DMD inavertantly ignites a rant that has apparently been stewing in SNS's mind for a while now. A rant in which Sence removes his savantness and goes all Idiot ! In an irreverent assessment of Talor Swifts (AKA Teefisiz ) musical carrier. He plows forward with a blatant disregard for all kinds of facts . Such as her age at her grammy debut . Also the object of her shameless exploitation . Who happens to be Tim Magraw not Garth Brooks ! Sence you fucking idiot !!!!!  Did you fuck that shit up for comical effect ? 🤔 Maybe there was some savanting in the rant after all .
But anywho  , the beat goes on as the Trio breifly touches on Hip Hop . DMD says spare him the hand claps when it comes to hip hop . So we figured what the hell why not post it .

#13.) We will Rock You !

The duo kick off the show with little self admiration and a look at progressive rock/metal . The discussion runs the gamut to band geek classes onwards to the mechanics of the ladies briskly moving their marvelous moneymakers at rawk performances. From bringing sexy back . To indulging in nerdy-town . While fully remaining stupefying about odd time signatures and then!? SNS has an epiphany and makes a solid connection between math rock and toxic masculinity. Oh the shame!

DMD experiences bona fide music school tackling odd time signatures with guitarist Emanuel "Manny" Franco. Then divulges how he and drummer Randall Taylor maneuvered into a another angular odd time group led by none other than guitarist Barry Stock. Barry's exit then leads them to Radar "O Reilly. The excitement concludes with old ROR tales of Sense's first introduction (indoctrination?) to the group as he refuses to give up his ten bucks, bitches!

#14.) They flow so naturally

STI welcomes Ralph Miguel formerly of the hard-rock power-pop sensation Gorman and Half Way Human. Will his current ensemble 100 Meter Scream and the newly revamped Damn Dirty Ape (aka the Gurnz) with STI's own DMD take over the world? Also present is James Kelly who drums in DDA and 100MS.

Ralph and James are diverting their typical pandemic Friday from watching ghost TV. Sense who is not easily impressed with most vocals is impressed with 100MS. From there it is poindexter and body movement as pencil neck geekss keep coming back to STI in droves. Not just "Revenge of the Nerds" but a total takeover? 

DMD tries real hard to cover up his jealousy about not having children like Ralph and Sense (who's got grand-kids btw). The guys all agree that saying yes to life's challenges is preferable. Should we apologize that this episode is reaching quasi profound life lessons on such a magnanimous level? We think not.

All these guys are so obsessed with giving each other nicknames could they be bigger jackassauruses than The Donald or Glen Fry? Obligation Man, Mr. Bill, 5ft of Fury, Phineus J Woopie, Charlie Brown, etc. God Gawd where does it figgin' end with this funky bunch?

#15.)The Funky Bunch

Savanting the Idiot welcomes special guest drummer Joey "Wrecked" Maya (author of "The Drummer of Miami Beach" who performed w/ The Reactions, Battalion of Saints, Circus of Power, Teddy & the Frat Girls, etc.). Sense dives right in inquiring about Joey's nickname because all you within earshot know us here at STI central go gaga over that sort of thing. Doug is a book hog for sure as much as The Reactions' Isaac Brooch wanted to hang dildos.                                                                                                          So Sense "In the spirit of the punkishness" gets to bottom of two Clash drummer contrasts which leads to fellow skin-beating approbation for a one Stuart Copland. Again will Joey ever sell his soul to the devil? And speaking of dirty bargains, did Joey give Steven Tyler a sweet deal on a dildo (more friggin' dildos - sheesse!!) working at a porn shop in The Big Apple and will Miami's own Churchill's become another CVS?

DMD wonders about how Torch . Juan's former band is fairing in the environment. of the pandemic. SNS wonders about Jaun's start into Art . The lock down has given him extra time to concentrate on Art as well as cooking .  Juan discusses various projects he's been in . Sense makes an attempt to phycho analize the trials & tribulations of life on tour & on the road. As Juan is trying to get through his stories . Just let me finish ! Quickly becomes the theme of Part 2 . DMD is no stranger to creating a verbal obstacle to keep our guest on their toes & Sence does’t help much in that department either.  Juan triggers a GWAR flash back in Doug's infinite labyrinth of memories.

STI Welcomes Special guest Juan Montoya , Part 1 . Juan dives straight into current events . As DMD dispenses with the pleasantries to dive right into the music . DMD drags the lake of Juan's earliest KISS memories. Juan drops witty & relevant sax references in regards to DMD's short lived sax stint. Sense's throws in a reference of his own to the Movie One Crazy Summer in line with cool sax playing . Cause Every body wants some ! When Alex said today is the day Ice T's  "Body count is released I was so down ! We rode our bikes more then 3 miles as fast as we could to get "Body Count "! The same day of its release . Before the great renigging of that album ! Soundsational Sence's brother will always be the coolest mo fucka on this planet that he has ever had the pleasure of knowing & fellowshipping with . Hands down !

STI Welcomes long time friend former fellow band mate and local artist/musician David De La Fe. AKA Freak. Freak kicks off the show displaying his in depth knowledge of the Star Trek universe.  Even  speaking in Klingon. As well as sharing his faith in the Vulcan way . David moves on to share his displeasure of the dual not mentioning George Carlin as a comical genuis in the proir show. It would seem that......"FUCK YOU Guys!!!!" is starting to become a common theme. Of course used as a term of endeerment from the guest on the show  .   Then as the trio dives into Freaks past.  Lex indulges in the alchemy of transforming Freaks historic facts into weapons of fiction . Which he then  uses to satisfy his undying need to hurl cheep puns in Sence's general direction . But despite the ensuing shenanigans between these two brothers.  Freak cunningly navigates the verbal mine field . To see his stories through to conclusion.

Savanting the Idiot! A Podcast hosted by Soundsational Sence & Death Metal Douglas - former rhythm section of South Florida hard rock band Radar 'O Reilly. The group contained SNS on drums, backing vocals & DMD on bass, backing and occasional lead vocals. The band also featured "Righteous" Richard Kennedy on guitar and lead vocals.

These two go through the realities of playing original music in South Florida, musical influences, favorite tunes, who gets songwriting credit, goof on old band-mates, the internet and how it has changed music and a plethora of other music related things and even a few non-music related topics on occasion.
