Business casual is the symbol of late stage capitalist façade that we are digested in as human beings but inside of that there is endless room for self expression. This is the age in my life of making the most out of every circumstance. Business casual in my world is not boring. It’s what happens after the work happy hour when interns flocking to New York City to be abused by their supervisor at an investment bank can explore their most shameful sexual kinks. It’s a middle manager getting a cigarette put out on his balls. It’s office siren/Bayonetta. It’s Shiv Roy. It’s maybe even Carolyn Besette Kennedy. It’s NOT Princess Diana. It’s Microsoft Windows '98. It’s Fruitger Aero. It’s the world you can create in the confines of a cubicle. It’s NOT The Dare because he didn’t invent wearing a suit. It’s Japanese businessmen missing the last train leaving Shinjuku station and having to stay out all night. It’s not cynicism. It’s optimism. It’s finding beauty in things that are plain. It’s gender. It’s PRADA SPORT. It’s MIU MIU F/W 2007. It’s early iPod Advertising. It’s Miranda Hobbes. It’s being pushed into the swimming pool with all your clothes on. It’s snagging your tights out on the lawn chair. It’s the queering of Patrick Bateman. It’s being confused about what is business casual so you just throw a blazer over what you’d normally wear. It’s reaching out to me and I’ll send you a Pinterest board of references… maybe if I feel like it.
