Ricardo Villalobos and Gerd Janson remix Jerome Sydenham, Fatima Njai, and Mario Punchard’s ‘Trans Afro Express’ for Rekids.

Following Sydenham, Njai and Punchard’s fresh take on Kraftwerk’s classic earlier this year, which picked up support from the likes of Optimo, India Jordan, DJ Bone, and more, Radio Slave recruits a pair of all-star remixers in Ricardo Villalobos and Gerd Janson to deliver a scintillating set of interpretations for his Rekids imprint.

Running Back’s Gerd Janson injects slap bass, funk-laden guitars, and twinkling synths over the original’s vocals for the ‘Dance’ mix, followed by a stripped-back instrumental version to kick off the A side. On the flip, Villalobos delivers a typically trippy affair, bringing constantly evolving strokes of modular mayhem and zapping percussion for over ten minutes, nervously settling into a chugging and deeply satisfying halftime groove.

The title of the first track, Art House, describes the smell of this release quite well. House rhythms, which could encourage nodding, seasoned with essences of jazz, world, rock, EDM et cetera. Everything put in scene instrumental and a bit minimal, so that no text and singing distracts from the flow. Rather sophisticated than brutal, the tracks give your pulse the rhythm it takes to work, drive or surf the day. 
Nerds are not considered gifted dancers by the way. But if the music causes you to unintentional twitches of more than your neck muscles, I would be happy.

No matter what you think of the Chilean show-stopper, there's no denying Ricardo has a special something when it comes to making and playing music. His remix shows off his typically bumping and rolling style, with glitchy percussion and an un-rivalled groove. 

For fans of Villalobos, this is a dream, for those not so hot on the legend's work, now's your time to get to know, this is brilliant.

We here produly present as a premiere the A-side, "El Malekon", 13 minutes and 20 seconds of pure joy, a classic trademark of the Chilean star. Mechanic and broken vocals materialise throughout the whole lenght of the track, with echoes of conversation pieces following through. Percussions and basslines are scientifically mixed for what results to be a deep and groovy minimal piece.
