Hurry Honeypie

The Sea is a song about the European refugee crisis, written from two different points of view. The verses are written from the perspective of a mother and child who have lost their home, and the chorus is from the point of view of the western observer, portraying their conflicting feelings of guilt, powerlessness and apathy.

The Sea

I wanted to write a breakup song that was hopeful and upbeat rather than gloomy and depressing, and this is what I came up with. ‘Wide Open’ is about embracing change and being optimistic about what lies ahead after ending a relationship with someone.

‘One’ is both a love song and a song about self-love. It is a song about falling in love with somebody, but more than that, it is about falling in love with yourself, so that you are finally capable of fully loving someone else.

Say Anise is London-based folk-pop artist Emily Barnett. With acoustic-guitar and harmony led arrangements, there is a definite 60s/70s Laurel Canyon influence to her music, combined with echoes of nineties alt-pop.

She released her second EP, "For Tomorrow", on Bandcamp and as a CD to be sold at live events in 2023. Her latest single, "One", is a song about falling in love with somebody, but more than that, it is about falling in love with yourself.
