My 10th time submitting to DJ Wick-It the Instigator's "Everyone Flips" sample challenge - v13 overall.

Original sample for the challenge is "Half Forgotten Dreams" by John Cameron... which inspired the title and the other surprise sample.

Long time no talk... Too long, some might say. 

Special shout out to the late gang! I  " finished " this a week ago but was out of town since then on a birthday ski trip, so I am just sending it in now. 

Super stoked to be back for another E-flips! I've been having to work on other music, and do other remixes in the meantime..  but there's definitely nothing quite like hanging with the homies on a single sample and seeing what we all come up with. 

I always preach the slice n dice.. take a sample and slice it to a midi drum rack.. play with the slices.. find gold... get famous... make money! 

So I did it.. I sliced the sample up like a loaf of milk... Built up a few drum racks using the ill.Gates 3 rack methodology.. Made some tasty but tasteful basses in operator, massive, serum using images as waveforms, and phaseplant, plus the scarbee bass guitar from native instruments... did a tonnnn of frequency splitting and playing around with the plugins Portal and Thermal by Output (which are fucking epic by the way).. found another sample or four to make it a full vibe, and put the ole SAYWHAT?! touch into the abletones to make what I present to you as: 

"Halfway to Lucid Daydreaming"

I know it's a 2 min max submission, so I understand if you cut it short, but I also spent like 10+ hours on the first 2 mins alone, AND THEN made a filthy yet funky breakdown w/ vocals, a trumpet solo, and concise and detailed riser into an epic drop & ending.. so feel free to let it slide a little long 😘 I'll share the finished song in 3.5 years when I finally get sick of it enough to call it finished. (jk soundcloud link will be ready for stream time, but still feel free to let it run a little long haha I put a plethora of effort into this one).

Colorado native Jordan Panasewicz rocks the moniker SayWhat?! representing a deranged man-child turnt panda bear. For over 10 years in the saturated Colorado scene, SayWhat?! has actively avoided following trends, and simply delivers the unique musical productions sent to him by the pandaliens from another universe. Now coining the genre "Ratchet Jazz", his productions are full of complex chords, jazzy riffs, and momentary filth. Slap n wobble bass lines work cohesively with hip hop rhythms and vocal samples to create a new era of jazz music that you didn't yet know you needed. Live trumpet and Electronic Woodwind Instrument in his performance are the icing on top, that will surely have you saying, "WHAT?!".
